Texas Day 2: The Forbidden Brewery

Irish Drinking Song:
A long time ago, way back in history,
When all they had to drink was nothing but cups of tea,
Along came a bloke by the name of Charlie Mopps,
And he invented a wonderful drink and he made it out of hops

Chorus:
He ought to have been an Admiral, a Sultan or a King
And to his praises we shall always sing.
Look what he has done for us ( Read more... )

What you show as a power plant looks instead to be a compressor for refrigeration

Really? You got any references?

I have to guess at some of this stuff.

Looking at the relatively skinny lower crankcase with the heavy round access port covers mean the crankcase is sealed and most likely working under pressure, typical for refrigeration. An engine tends to have a beefier bottom end and is generally not 'sealed' as heavily. Also, judging by the huge amount of smaller piping around the unit and the number of valves, it seems that the unit is fed from and is feeling multiple zones. I cant make out too much detail of the upper section, but I cannot see rockers or sliders that indicate that it would be an engine either.

Not as mush info as I thought with a cursory Google search, but anecdotally, the thing about older compressors is that they relied on pistons for compression of the refrigerant that were driven by an electric motor, while engines have pistons using combustion to translate power to the shaft. Keep an eye open for fuel piping to identify as a compustion engine and piping/gauge tags for refrigeration or air/gas compressors in an industrial setting.

Scoping out old industrial settings fascinates me. Dont get the chance to explore like I did years ago, but discovering the various urbex/abandon communities lets me live vicariously till I get a chance to haul my old bones out for an adventure.
