Rosewood, Pennsylvania - Thursday Night
Hanna had been invited by Caleb to The Brew because he wanted her to meet his father tonight. Since she was going to be in Rosewood, she also brought Lou the kitty to stay with her mom while she was on vacation next week. She was so not a pet person, so Hanna appreciated her noble sacrifice.
She had also been so nervous to get to meet a parent of the guy she was dating, but it went well. His father, Jamie, seemed to like her. Hanna was so charmed by him that she didn't even feel the need to bluntly point out his abandonment of Caleb in a snarky way. She would have done that if she didn't like him.
She and Caleb were going to order pizza and hang out later when she got a text message from Emily.
One thing about Hanna and her friends: when they got an s.o.s. message from one of the four, the other three dropped everything to be there. She promised Caleb a rain check before heading to the nearby hospital. Emily told them to meet there. Hanna was so worried, afraid Emily was hurt in some way.
Aria arrived at about the same time, followed by Spencer. That was surprising considering how she'd been trying to push them away. Even that wasn't enough to keep her away from an s.o.s.
They were there because Jason had been in an "accident." He and Emily had been doing some sleuthing about Alison and Wilden only to be stuck in a broken down elevator. Jason got Emily out right before the elevator plummeted. Somehow he had survived with only a few scrapes and a neck brace. That sounded very much like the person who did this made sure it wasn't enough to kill someone on impact. Very 'A.'
He was apparently well enough to leave the hospital. He took off while no one was with him. At least that was the current assumption. Perhaps someone made him leave?
Spencer was, of course, very worried about her brother. This is how Hanna ended up back at The Brew later that night. Emily had a key since she worked there. It was the perfect place where they could be alone to discuss things.
"How you holding up, Em?" Hanna asked, concerned.
"I don't think I'll be taking an elevator any time soon," Emily quietly replied.
"Any word from Jason?" Aria asked.
"He sent me a text. He's going to Virginia for awhile. He has friends there."
Well, that solved that little mystery. So he did leave on his own. Hanna didn't really blame him for hightailing it out of town.
"So now that the entire N.A.T is out of Rosewood, do you think 'A' will retire?" Hanna's voice was hopeful, even though she really knew better.
"Or they'll have more time for us," Spencer pointed out, dashing Hanna's hopes. "I just doubt suddenly everything's gonna be lilacs and daffodils."
"Let's focus," Emily interrupted, getting everyone back on track. "CeCe lied about knowing Wilden, and then we find a picture of both of them with Ali."
"A picture that's now gone," Aria sighed.
"Is it possible CeCe is...what are we calling her? Red Coat?" Hanna was confused about that, noticing Spencer's phone signaling a text message. She read a text from Wren about needing to talk to Spencer about something that happened tonight. Hanna actually wasn't being nosy. She was concerned. "What happened tonight with you and Wren?"
Spencer stammered for a moment before replying. "Mona and I had a moment. And he saw it, that's all."
"A moment that might make her try to cut Emily in half?" Aria asked, referring to the elevator incident.
"No. No, you guys, this wasn't Mona." Spencer was sure of this, apparently. "We were in a different county."
"Well then who do you think it was?" asked Hanna.
Spencer seemed to be taking her time with an answer, like she wanted to say something. But she was interrupted by the knocking on the door. To all of their dismay, it was Detective Wilden. Ugh.
"We're closed," Emily told him, trying to keep him from entering.
"And drinking coffee isn't a crime," Hanna said, glaring. She hated that guy more than most. "What are you doing here?"
He waltzed right past Emily, not caring what a colossal jerk he was. "Looking for you girls."
"You were following us?" Gross.
"Jason DiLaurentis has been saying some nasty things about me," Wilden explained.
"Like what?" Hanna knew full well what.
"Don't play dumb, Hanna." Wilden glared right back at her. "Wouldn't be the first time you made up a story."
"Well, I don't know what you're talking about, so why don't you leave us alone." Hanna was just a bit nervous.
"No need to get defensive," Wilden said. "It was just a question."
"Why don't you ask CeCe Drake?" Hanna didn't care when she heard Aria protesting. "We know about the little boat ride you two took with Alison."
Hanna noticed the worry on Wilden's face...and immediately she regretted mouthing off just then.
"It's late," he announced.
"We were just leaving," Emily replied.
"Care for a ride?" he asked. "It's not safe this time of night."
He wasn't wrong about that. Not in Rosewood.
"We're good," Aria said with a bit of fire in her voice.
As he was opening the door to leave, he turned back to face them. "Oh, and Hanna? See you around."
Hanna shivered, relieved when he finally left. Suddenly, she was very glad she'd be on the other side of the world next week. But she also felt guilty. "Guys, I can stay here for break and help out with detective work and stuff."
"No way. You may never have the opportunity to go to Turkey again. Go," Emily insisted.
"And bring us cool souvenirs," Aria added with an adorable grin, one Hanna could not refuse to say no to.
"Yeah, have fun, Han," Spencer added, actually sounding sincere. "Try not to think about this stuff."
"You'll call if anything happens, right?" She didn't want a repeat of what happened last year when she went on vacation, when she wasn't talking to the girls.
"I will," Emily replied. "Don't worry."
She'd try not to. Really.
