So - based largely on the deplorable record of a Republican who was not a conservative, a Democrat becomes President while running on a slogan of "change" - while not proposing one single new idea that hasn't been hashed and rehashed by liberal Dems since FDR. Not one ( Read more... )

Respectfully, because we don't need to agree for me to hear what you said:
1. A huge voter turnout, a change
2. A president elect that the world community loves, to help heal our international breaches
3. An african-american president

These are all big changes.

I concede that Barack Obama has not accomplished much during his political career. However, when I see the huge crowds he draws and listen to his rhetoric I think that he is the perfect person to occupy the oval office. In this media age an intelligent, patriotic, consensus building thoughtful leader is just what this country needs.

I'm not depressed, I'm thrilled.

A good candidate should inspired people and not simply be the lessor of the evils. Obama has certainly done that.

Hitler inspired people, and they thought him to be better than the lesser of two evils. Big deal. He's still a piece of shit. There are a million inspirational people out there. The words they say should make more of a difference.

Between us, always with respect.

I am more concerned with actual policy positions than mere rhetoric. Inspirational speakers, if they inspire us to take a harmful path, harm our nation even if they do so in a way that inspires enthusiasm and voter turnout. And I had hoped that we could move beyond a point where the most important thing about a presidential candidate was his race - I dream, as did Dr. King, that the men and women who would lead us "will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

I do agree that he can't possibly hurt our standing overseas, and hopefully he can heal some rifts with our allies in Eurpoe and elsewhere. I don't think McCain was positioned well to do that. Apropos of that, the Wonderbunny made an interesting point this morning - will the radical part of the Islamic world see him as a heretic who renounced the faith of his father? I hardly think we could do anything to make their opinion of us worse - perhaps Obama could invite Salman Rushdie and others to the ( ... )
