It is midafternoon in Winterhold and the main part of the Winterhold home is nearing completion. It is ready for occupancy.
The rooms are large, the walls and floors are thick, and it is quiet on the upper level. The cellar (not shown) is large, too, for storage and armory, with a couple of spare rooms with simple beds in them. The attic is likewise large, and currently empty. The four bedrooms each have a small fireplace.
The main room is spacious, has plenty of places for comfy furs and chairs around the large firepit. In fact, it is cozy enough to sleep there by the firepit. The kitchen has its own firepit and plenty of storage for spices and stuff, as well as a large ice box. It also has a Velothi style oven, much like the ones in Morrowind. Needless to say the cellar has plenty of racks to be filled with wine, ale, and mead bottles.
There remains a few more things that Sage wants to do for the home, including installing an alchemy lab and an enchanting station, as well as a hot bath. He has plans, also, for an entire smithy, including a smelter.
In the room Sage chooses for his bedroom, he puts up bookshelves and a large canopied bed, as well as a small ice box, which he is completing right now. He also intends to add his private alchemy and enchanting station. He has plans to install wood paneling in his room, much like the old Imperial style in Morrowind (think Caldera.)
Sage has been crafting enchanted weapons to sell to fund the house and the labor to build it. He often lets Ram Head do the haggling in selling the stuff as she is skilled in mercantile.
Whistling Mine turns out to be a tiny mine run by someone who thinks the mine will make big gold in the future. He pays for what iron ore can be found, but Sage makes a richer find. Asking the Jarl of Winterhold- as part of getting in good with the Jarl- for a job, he gets the task of finding the Helm of Winterhold inside Fort Fellhammer. So Sage and any others who want to go, can go. They clear out many bandits and find that the fort has a mine rich with iron ore that can be transmuted into gold.
The Jarl is happy, having something that he believes will re-establish his authority in Winterhold. More trade is coming in with the decrease of bandits on the road. More people come, perhaps one day even the Khajiit caravans will come, which is what Sage hopes, as they connect to most places in Skyrim, as well as the Thieves Guild. A few new buildings are being erected, or some are being rebuilt. More jobs are being created, and the Frozen Hearth is doing brisk business. More workers are needed for deliveries and hunting to keep the Frozen Hearth supplied with food and drink. More prospective students hoping to apply to the Mages College. All of these bring coin or skilled labor, as well as news from the south. Many are mer or beastfolk.
Even Brand-Shei (Brandyl Tenvanni) shows up after his jail time in Riften in hopes of finding others of House Telvanni at the Mages college and opening a new supply business that transports goods from Windhelm and other places.
Of course none of this business with mer, beastfolk, or the occasional Imperial or Breton sits well with the Stormcloak sympathizers and mage haters of Winterhold…
