I'm sure I still owe a back post or two, but don't feel like writing them at the moment.
Instead, I'm going to bitch.
I went to work today, intending to stay until I got a particular project finished. My part was more or less done -- some cleanup, a few additional bells and whistles, and then debug it.
I started off with the last. I ended with the last. The cleanup, the bells and whistles? I guess I'm doing those tomorrow.
You see, apparently the person who's code I'm supposed to be relying on (three weeks late, as I mentioned before) did something slightly less than a half-assed job. IT DOESN'T WORK. Three weeks late, and it doesn't work???
So I spent all my time trying to figure out why my code was being so screwy. Well, guess what! It's actually rather simple. Because of the way the code I was dwelling in was structured, I couldn't look straight at what I was doing before my code was actually called. So in the end I went up to top of the code this other guy had written.
He was missing a "/" in one case. How hard is that to miss?
IT DIDN'T WORK AT ALL!
How hard is that to miss?
So I was stuck, after 9 and a half hours spent debugging someone else's code. I ended up having to email my manager and a bunch of coworkers and tell them, it's not going to be ready today. Or tomorrow. Period. Sorry, better luck next time.
It's the first time I've completely missed a deadline. I just wish it had been my fault.
