Example 1: Import of multiple low value packages of goods (for example,
six packages each valued at $200)
AUD$
Customs value (6 x $200) (Cval) 1200.00
Customs duty (Duty) @ 5% of Cval 60.00 (Payable)
International transport and insurance or postage (T&I) 150.00
Value of the Taxable Importation (VoTI) (Cval+Duty+T&I) 1410.00
Goods and Services Tax (GST) @ 10 per cent of the VoTI 141.00 (Payable)
Total payable Duty + GST 201.00
Not only do you pay GST on the postage, but you also pay GST on the
insurance.
For some icing on the cake you also pay GST on the DUTY! Customs charging
you duty on your imports is considered a service that you should be paying
tax on?? Fuck me with a huge dinazor batman.
A tax on a tax on the already income taxed money you earned and put in to
a bank account with taxable interest (not to mention any taxes on the
original goods).
Im writing to the government.
