Sharing the good things...

After a rather troublesome week, I intended to have a good weekend. I had a recuperative sit on my ass watching TV and DVD's on Friday night, and the rest was much needed. I woke up bright and early on Saturday morning out of a dream where I'd had a stroke in my eye, and my whole eye had turned a pale yellow (with no pupil). Nonsense, said I, and proceeded to pour myself coffee and start the day by paying my bills online. At 7:40 a.m.

By four in the afternoon I had
-been to the plumbers for parts, and fixed both the leak at the back of the toilet and the hot water tap in the kid's bathroom. Yay for hot water and a place to poo!
-turned the electricity off and succesffuly extricated the base of a lightbulb that broke off in the socket when my daughter was changing the bulb earlier in the week. Yay for light at the bottom of the basement stairs!
-got 90% of the laundry done, as we were going out of town for my Dad's birthday on Sunday.
-got 90% of the cleaning done, as we were going out of town as per the above.
-purchased the fixings for a nice supper, because for once neither of the kids was working over supper.

It was only seven below freezing, so son barbecued up the steaks, and I cooked a huge batch of organic yams, and then we feasted while watching the last episode of Firefly. And were sad that it was the last episode. My son is looking for a petition he can sign to bring it back.

Woke up Sunday to a snow storm. The brake light came on again while I was driving son to work at 9, so re-evaluated the wisdom of heading out onto the highway in a blizzard with brake issues. Decided to stay home, which opened up hours of free time. I read all the episodes of Wraithborn and The 13th Son and Army of Darkness Reanimator that I hadn't had a chance to yet, and then organized all the comics and graphic novels that were sitting on the top of various shelves into one location. I read articles in Runner's World in lieu of actually going to the gym, since my tummy was complaining, and hoped that motivation at least counts for something. I organized my finances, and paid the kids' University tuition. I spent a few minutes contemplating my LOTR collection, and trying to devise a plan. I downloaded a bunch of music and added 95 new songs to my iPod.

(Which reminds me - their service ROCKS! The screen on my iPod stopped working two weeks ago, and after trying everything in the help section of their web site, I filed a service order with them, explaining that I had dropped it on the treadmill and it went flying off the back onto the floor, but I'd dropped it before so no big deal, right? And it didn't stop working right away, it worked for two days after! I had no idea why it had stopped working. Within two days, Purolator was at my door with a box to ship the Ipod back to them. They picked it up again the next day - a week ago Friday - and this Friday my door bell rang before 8:00 a.m. and it was Purolator again - with a brand new iPod, shipped from California. In and out in a week. Now that's the kind of service you rarely see anymore.)

Two great days, which made the week itself fade into memory. We all felt almost...serene by Sunday night. It's a nice feeling, that.
