So Duchess, my Shepherd / Rottweiler cross dog, didn't stop with throwing up her supper on Tuesday. She was throwing up off and on yesterday, so I gave her only 1/3 of her usual supper last night, and she threw that up as well. Then she threw up all night long - I stopped trying to clean it up, and just threw more paper towel over it. Luckily she is a well-mannered dog, and she kept going back to the same place when she felt sick, so we just had one major mess to clean up today - a big mess, but localized. She couldn't even keep water down.
This morning her eyes looked dull and she was really lethargic. I got her into the vet right away. My poor baby - they were having such a hard time finding a vein to take blood, and it took over half an hour and more needle sticks than I wanted to count. Finally they resorted to using a vein in her neck. Imagine three people trying to hold and soothe an eighty pound, extremely strong dog while all that went on. It's a good thing she's so even tempered - she cried out a couple of times, but never once growled or nipped. My sweet baby.
She's back home now with a shot of something to help settle her stomach. She can only have ice cubes for water until they get the results back, to try to reduce the vomitting. She's laying at my feet, and more than anything I want to stay with her. But I have to get to work.
They're rushing the blood work, so hopefully I'll have an answer this afternoon.
