Ahemm. So, I, like, had the chance to bud in with friends of mine to enter the lottery for tickets for this World Cup. Like...second round tickets, but, frankly speaking, it didn't hold much appeal to me. Like...none at all. So, no, I don't have that much experience with watching games in a stadium, but, eh, seriously? The only games I like watching 'live', i.e. with people around me outside of my livingroom are Football of the American kind (is there any other???) and Baseball. Yes, I am German. So? Anyhow, the whole point...those friends of mine got tickets for the Ghana game against the Czech Republic and I am kicking myself repeatedly that I didn't attend it as well.
GHANA!
Whoa, Nelly. If not for their Goalie, the Czech Republic would have sunk deeper and faster than the Titanic in 1912. What an unbelievable game. What an atmosphere. It was oozing out of my speakers in my livingroom, it must have been intense, and, according to those mates of mine, it was intoxicating. The whole stadium was cheering, and considering they had 43.000 people in there, it must have been goosebump-inspiring. If all games would be as intense, people'd drop left and right with strokes. That would be a rather negative statistic though, so why bother with it. Score one for the underdog!
Next.
So, really, what did you expect. Iran beating Portugal? Puh-lease.
Little Italy in uproar
Ummm. What I wouldn't give to watch this game in Little Italy in New York. Two red cards. One yellow/red card. Ouch. In one game. I actually had to look up how many players a team can loose before they have to give up. This was the most intense draw I ever saw and I have to tip my hat to the 'mericans. They had the audacity to outbest the Italians. If not for the two ejections, I can but wonder how the game would have ended instead. Way to go, guys, way to go. Sadly, again though, no real sign of Donovan. Come on, you're gonna get married soon, what better way to finish your bachelor life than with a little more world cup experience?
All in all, it's gonna be an interesting third round. None of the group members really has an advantage, it's gonna be tight, and especially for me rather difficult. Ghana or the US, who ought to win that game? One of the guys who attended the Ghana game is coming over for soccer and BBQ tomorrow, he's gonna boast about how great the game and the atmosphere were, I'll have to not politely and fight down the urge to strangle him. How I hate it when I'm wrong and can't do a thing about it afterwards. Sadly, no fairy godmother shows up and gives me tickets just because I'm such a nice guy. Woe is me I guess.
