A Mother’s Love (Doctor Who Ten/Rose Fanfic)
----------------------------------------------
Her eyes grew blank, as if her vision saw through him and instead the image of her smiling comforting mother glossed over. “I want to see my mum,” she whispered, tears almost threatening their way to the surface. “After...” she broke off because she saw it all over again, the devastation, so many innocent people dead. Their screams. Those endless screams seem to echo even now. She looked towards him, her face set and strained, black tears falling from her lovely hazel eyes. “I need her Doctor.”

The Doctor raised his head, face stern, but his eyes said it all. He understood the comfort of a mother, how the pain and horror could be easily wiped away with an embrace, gesture or word. He wanted more than ever to take it away. It killed him over and over to see her so distraught. “Rose…” he softly spoke his arms opening up for her as he encircled her into his body. His arms resting around her waist and back. The embrace tight and so warm. Touching and welcoming. She quickly buried her face into his chest. The soft beating of his hearts a comforting sound enveloped her and kept those terrifying screams at bay.

He breathed her in, kissing the crown of her head the scent of her golden hair like wild flowers. Her chest heaved those ushered tears quiet. The soft warmth of her breath caressing his chest as she softly sniffled. He couldn’t blame her. She’d been away from home and what they had witnessed even unsettled him. So much so he was glad they were within each others arms. He needed comfort too. Just because you’re a Time Lord doesn’t mean he couldn’t be scared or vulnerable. He knew those emotions all too well hidden under a mask of cool and calm. A nicely perfected masquerade. You don’t stay to be 900 without learning some vital tricks.

He pulled her away slightly though he hated too, he just wanted to be in her arms forever. Yeah, forever. Her features were marred with running mascara but he loved that face nonetheless. He gently cupped it into his hands and smiled that smile. His beautiful wide grin was just so infectious her heart almost ached. She couldn’t help herself, but return it.

He stared at her in the stillness of the control room. “London, 21st century it is,” he finally said his long delicate fingers smearing her black tears away. He broke that serene togetherness to hop and jump to the other side of the console. Lever pulling and hammer banging in his chaotic delight.

She leaned back then sat into the control seat wiping at her face. “Thank you Doctor,” she smiled, sincere and grateful. “Thank you.”

He stopped his head lifting to look at her. For a moment he was staring at her in quiet awe and beamed, “Anything for you, Rose Tyler.”
