Selective Coloring in GIMP
How to go from this
to this
in GIMP.
It's very easy.
Tutorial:
All right, so first you need a picture. It's best if you use some with red in it, to make the selective coloring look cooler, but you don't have too. It works with any image.
So for this tutorial I am going to use this
beautiful picture of the lovely Kristen Stewart.
First, (obviously) open your image in GIMP.
Now, leave that one alone, and open it a second time in GIMP. Then, on the second one, go to Image>Mode> and click greyscale. This makes the image black and white. Then, since it won't let you use any type of color in greyscale, go back under Image>Mode and click RGB. Now your image is still black and white, and you can actually use it.
Next, copy that image, and paste it over on the 1st one as a new layer. So now you have 2 layers, the color one on bottom and the B&W one on top. Then click the Eraser tool. Using a regular circle brush, erase over the areas you want colored to show up (P.S. they already have to be that color, this is not a tutorial telling you how to color them.
And viola! You're done! Feel free to ask questions and/or leave comments.
