Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.

[He laughs, softly.]

You all seem to be overreacting, in my humble opinion. It was an event, you have an excuse for the way you acted. Besides which, it's nice to let it out every once in awhile, isn't it?

[No part of this situation is funny, Yuca. At all.]

An event is no excuse for what occurred during that week. Using it as such relieves people of responsibility. No matter how they acted or whatever they were influenced by, their actions were still their own, and they should be held accountable for them.

Unless their mental states were altered at such time. You can get away with murder if you plead insanity, Lance.

[Yes, he's been watching you, he knows your name, if not little else.]

Besides which, perhaps that came out wrong. I'm simply commenting on how redundant all of this apologizing is. Why don't we all agree that everyone is sorry and put it behind us? Obsessing over something that cannot change won't do anyone any good.

[He knows yours too, Yuca. It's his past time, keeping tabs on everyone in Adstringendum. That way he can attempt to predict when someone loses their ever loving shit.]

Because not everyone is sorry, Yuca, and the guilt that those people feel is normal and necessary. There are those that won't feel apologetic for the crimes they've committed under the influence of the event or whatever else they have endured.

Then so be it. It just seems to be a waste of effort, all this regret and guilt and sadness. It's over, it's done. Besides which, there's no apology louder than not making the same mistake in the future- words have little to do with it.

And to those that will only repeat their actions?

What does that have to do with apologizing?

A genuine apology soothes even the largest wounds immediately after the incident. Lack of action after that reinforces trust. It only reopens wounds once you violate that trust once more.

Those who refuse to apologize and are not sorry for their actions, those who hide behind the Animus, those who will only repeat these actions in the future, should not be forgiven with a wave of the hand.

A genuine apology doesn't soothe anything immediately after the incident- unless you're some kind of saint, Lance, I'd assume that part of you would still be upset.

Then they won't be forgiven. I think we can discern the good from the bad by now, can't we?

Perhaps not, but it gives great insight into the type of person that they are.

I do not know, Yuca, can we?

We're not all cut from the same cloth.

And I like to believe it's possible. Stick around long enough, maybe you'll glean a thing or two about figuring out people's true motives.

No, we are not.

[Rather simply.]

And perhaps.
