First Rebirth- [Voice]

Sep 11, 2009 00:31

[The device clicks on, and all that's heard is a soft breath for a moment, before Yuca speaks quietly.]

...I didn't expect a future like this one.

[He died, didn't he?  He remembered pulling the trigger- so the only logical conclusion was that this was the future, six hundred years from his last memory.  Just to be on the safe side-]

[The PCD emits some tapping sounds, as though there are fingers accidentally bumping buttons. Aya was aiming for using the voice feed, but ended up turning on video feed instead. The angle is crooked, but it certainly doesn't hide the fact that her eyes can't see.]

The year was 1999 when I was brought here. But that was in my world, and it was probably a different year in yours when you were brought here.

I don't... I don't think Adstringendum has a year.

[He tilts his head at the skewed angle for a moment, smiling briefly before realizing she was blind, and letting the expression slip quickly from his face.]

Still, it's useful to know about when people arrive from. [His tone is upbeat, as if making up for the smile that his expression lacked.] Especially if dealing with technology and- science, that sort of thing.

Nobody's devised a method of keeping the time yet?

[She frowns.]

It's funny.
Everyone here seems to have a general grasp on the concept of time. We know days, nights, seasons, and months. Even years.
But in terms of keeping track of time, I don't know if anyone's found a way to do it. I haven't been here for very long.

It's a strange sort of stasis.

[He understands- it's only logical that people have been here for years if nobody could ever escape. For all he knew, it's been going on forever.]

Do you know when it first started? When people first started being transported- when this... thing collapsed.

[She shakes her head, and runs her hand through her hair.]

No, I don't know. I have only been here for a few weeks.

You as well.

You said you were from- 1999? What was your world like, then?

It was.... [That may or may not have been an uncomfortable fidget.] ... busy. It was very busy. You hardly any real time for anyone. Life was pretty much always going.

I suppose that's one of the nice things about being here; you always have time for the things you didn't have time for back home...

What about your world? What year was it?

There do seem to be pros about this place after all, then.

[A distant look reaches his eyes, and he shrugs.]

We were... [It's as if he has to remember.] There was a war going on. I don't recall the year.

War... [She brings her hand up to massage the bridge of her nose]

Must have been hard for you.

It was.

[It wasn't.

He notices her expression, and a hint of concern taints his voice.]

Are you alright?

I'm fine

[She's not.

But she offers him a small half-smile anyway, even if it's directed offscreen.]

Where were you from?

[He notes this and purses his lips slightly, but doesn't say anything.]

It was sort of middle-of-nowhere. Neutral territory. The largest town near us was Gargantua, if that's any help. I worked as a priest there, overlooking orphans of the war. And yourself?

[A frown.]

I'm sorry, none of that sounds familiar.

I lived in a big city, called New York. But it sounds like we aren't from the same world, so what it was called probably doesn't help you much, either.

New York... I don't remember it, no. Why was it new?
