As irksome as all of this is, I do hope everyone understands that it will all be over soon. Nothing ever lasts in Adstringendum- not the people, not the events. It's disconcerting to suddenly lose something you've taken for granted for so long, but if you simply allow yourself time to adjust, you'll find that you can train your other senses

I've broken my back at one point- though, to be fair, I couldn't move around much either. I bit my tongue and killed myself instead of living like that.

Another time, I was in a fire and destroyed most of the nerve endings in my left arm- a disease here and there...

[Al's silent for a few minutes. Yuca's committed suicide before, to get away from the pain of living. It makes sense in the grand scheme of things, but it's still horrifying.]

I just... don't like imagining you going through that much pain. Enough that you would kill yourself.

If I flinched at every prick of the finger, I'd spend all my life flinching and being scared of needles. It doesn't really make it any less painful when it happens, but the more pain I experience, the calmer it makes me when I experience it next time.

[Long pause. A while back, he would have wanted to tell him that he'd try to make sure he didn't need to do that while he was here. Now, he's at a complete loss.

He doesn't really have the right to offer Yuca that, when he might not be able to deliver. He won't believe him, anyway.]

It still hurts you. Scared or not, detached or not, it still hurts.
