Game 027 [Voice] - Remind Me Before I Forget it All

Jul 26, 2010 13:26

[ It's early in the morning when the audio clicks on, just about the time when the earliest risers will be waking up. Joshua isn't going to be going to bed any time soon, though, so he'll be responding well into the day. ]

Call me curious. What do you dream of?

[ His tone of voice is level, more bored than curious with just a hint of weariness. ]

All sorts of things. My home, the people I've met, both recent and distant experiences... Sometimes, I even dream about things as mundane as what I had for dinner the other day.

Do you enjoy them?

Most of the time, yes. Bear in mind, once the dream becomes a nightmare, it isn't enjoyable in the least.

But you can dream of a nightmare, can't you?

Ah, now there's a conundrum. I suppose it all depends on the dream's point of view. It's safe to say I wouldn't enjoy a dream of myself having a nightmare, though.

They're nightmares for a reason, after all.

You have nightmares, too, then?

Of course. Are they not so common in your world?

No, they are. I just know some people who can never remember if they've had any nightmares.

Remembering the content of nightmares is usually difficult to do. Though, the same can be said about normal dreams.

Or maybe they just don't want to remember.

That's very possible.

Why do you think dreams are so much easier to forget than normal memories?

It has to do with one's consciousness, I believe. Normal memories are experiences you consciously witness, while dreams are said to be the consciousness' way of processing those experiences.

Ah, a scientific explanation. Why process those experiences at all?
