[ If you happen to be celebrating the new year with some coffee or pastries or... whatever else Hanekoma feeds people at Kat's Kradle, then you might hear the sound of someone tuning a violin coming from the second story

[Celebrating with coffee and pastries sounds good right about now. Which is why one Neku Sakuraba is wandering into the cafe. And it's probably somewhere in the middle of Joshua's little performance there.
As soon as Neku walks in he pauses once he catches the sound. So... it was a violin after all? Huh.]
[ Joshua plays on, pausing for only a moment before continuing again.
After a couple seconds, a rather frazzled kitten skitters down the stairs and immediately jumps up onto one of the couches, claws digging into the fabric, staring at the stairs. ]
[...well that was interesting. Jeeze, Joshua, what are you doing to the poor kitten. Neku would go and try to pet Java to calm her down or something, but those claws make him think twice.
Instead he just gives her a glance then starts heading up the stairs.]
[ What? He gave her a gentle disciplining when she tried to attack and make a chew toy out of the end of his bow. But for now, he's playing uninterrupted. ]
[ That might be due to Joshua's definition of "gentle" not quite matching up with Java's Brainy's. He plays on, completely absorbed in the music he's making, not distracted by the sounds of footsteps on the stairs that he can barely hear over the sounds of the violin.
It's been a few years since he last played, but already the instrument feels familiar in his hands, like he barely needs to think and only remember the song as he plays on, just a fraction of the Music he wants to hear. ]
[Well, while Joshua continues to play, Neku hangs back there in the hallway to listen. Whatever it is he's playing, it's really interesting. And kinda... comforting.]
[ He's forming a path, tracing streets, walking up a stairway, forming people as he goes, one shop on the right, one on the left, the top of the stairs and--
There's just the smallest pause, just a fraction of a second, and then he's moving back down the stairs, the people shifting slightly as they've walked, back out of the area, leaving that one section at the top of the stairs undefined. ]
[...aww, but wasn't that Mr. H's part? Not that Neku knows what this song is, but.
Neku doesn't even notice the pause, just continuing to listen out here in the hall. He's starting to wonder if he should be spying like this, though. Not that he's making any move to leave or anything.]
[ It was. And Josh isn't sure whether it should be anymore. Really, leaving it undecided was a kindness over what he could have done.
Joshua plays on, even if he were aware of Neku, he probably wouldn't care. He continues, drawing buildings, sketching people, replicating just a little bit of the city he loves. ]
[Good, 'cause Neku is too intrigued to leave anyway. He leans up against one of the walls there next to Joshua's door, just continuing to listen. He just wishes he could figure out why it sounds so familiar.]
[ If he can't figure it out, he'll have to ask. The music continues, and the notes are just a hint less pure, the vibrato a little more unstable... his emotion bleeds through, but only if you're listening for it. The nostalgia that pains him so much that whenever he just stops and takes the time to think about it, he can barely breathe. Hurt and longing like he's never known before, and he's only agitating a wound but it's a comfort at the same time. ]
[ Well, then, we'll be here for a while, dude. Shibuya is a large, complicated city, and Joshua could play for days and still only scratch the surface. ]

...that song, though. Neku doesn't think he's heard it before, but. There's something kind of familiar to it? He can't place it.]
