Action! Books! Wednesday Comics!

Today, I played catch and did martial arts with my Dad. It's our usual thing.

I've been playing baseball when I was six. As a result, I can catch and throw stuff perfectly without even thinking about it. It's very weird and pretty awesome whenever I do it, because it's like, the one thing I do that runs entirely on instinct. And I feel all powerful ( Read more... )

The story doesn't sound half bad.

I do enjoy that the boy's name is Bart

Bwhahaha! I am ahead of the curve!

About how your book sounds stupid (it doesn't, it actually sounds really really interesting), think of it this way - have you ever tried to explain Cassandra's solo series to anyone? But how awesome is it?

The rear naked choke genuinely is able to render someone unconscious in a matter of seconds--how long depends on the person, but it's never more than 12 seconds once you properly cinch it in. It works by pinching off the carotid arteries, cutting off the blood supply to the brain--despite the name, it's not a traditional "choke" where you squeeze the throat shut. It *used* to be taught to police officers as a way to subdue suspects, but because it can, if not released promptly upon the victim falling unconscious, result in brain damage or even death, it fell out of favor with the cops. A loosely-applied version is used in pro wrestling to this day, with the more familiar name of "sleeperhold ( ... )

My dad actually told me a lot of that (he's a font of martial arts knowledge) but not all of that. Neat!

Your story idea definitely doesn't sound stupid. Please understand that I really mean this as a compliment when I say, it sounds like it has some of the elements of Twilight--but does something good with them. A lonely girl, young love with a guy who is dead/undead/not-the-usual-kind-of-alive, and coping with life and death and all the rest. And being able to recognize feelings of depression, and dealing with it in an intelligent way is really cool. It'd be like an awesome anti-Twilight! Keep writing it!

And yeah, I'm also pretty psyched about Wednesday Comics. It's neat that they're creating such a physical experience, in that it's a different format that you have to unfold and all. It's hard to imagine that being properly translated digitally, so it's a smart way to counteract piracy, I think.

You know, now that I think about it, you're right. The funny thing is I have a scene of Attie really beating herself up over the exact same thing Bella did, completely trusting and letting her happiness being dictated by a boy. She's really hard on herself about it, because she vowed it was something she'd never do. It reads like a condemnation on Twilight, though I didn't mean it that way. Kind of funny.

Thanks for the encouragement!
