XMFC - I would like to rant, but...

Just re-watched XMFC yesterday night because I had trouble sleeping and I still need to write prompt-fills for the obvious pairing of this fandom ^.^

Actually, watching the movie again riled me up, with poor Charles being the target. I have a big heart for many charas, but in the end, I can only go mama bear protective over one darling and in this case, that is and will always be, Erik. So I'm angry with Charles for using his telepathy so carelessly, even abusing it to dig up some chicks or being constantly on "thought reception" - because how else could he have outed Hank as a mutant?

Many fangirls seem to think it's wonderful, that someone can read your mind, but I find it horribly invasive and terrifying, especially considering Charles lax attitude about it in this particular movie. Because I think he acutally means it when he tells Erik that "he knows everything" about him and "felt his agony" *shudders* Even if he saved Erik's life, reading him to that extent... *brr*

Another thing - hah, I think I AM ranting °-° - is this gem of dialogue:

Charles: "I won't stop you leaving. I could. - But I won't."

Holy Primus on a pogo stick! While I can HEAR the fangirls swooning and sighing happily over this, I'm wholly creeped out! It's bad enough that it is implied that Charles can rob you off your free will and make you forget about that, so that you will never know that something in your mind was altered, that he say's it outright makes it WORSE not better.

And then there's the stuff I read over on - you guessed it - TV Tropes, where it is stated that Shaw created Magneto. While that is true, it was Charles of all people, who hand Erik the key to full usage of his powers, by helping him finding the state of mind "between rage and serenity". Kinda creepy, if you think about that, right?

Another think: While it is Erik's decision to kill the humans with the missiles (nothing more uniting for humans than a mutual threat, eh?), it is Moira who shoots him. AND: her first shot could have killed Erik, because it glanced off his helmet - as far as I saw in slow-motion, he didn't deflect that one. That he deflect the others is only natural, instinct - and that Charles is so smart to get up while the lead is flying everywhere... well... °.° Not Charles fault, but definetely not ONLY Erik's fault either...

BTW: Mentioning that "people only follow orders" when dealing with a Holocaust victim is REALLY a smart move, Charles! *facepalm*

Last but not least: That last moment on the beach, where Charles said "You did" and "No, we don't (want the same thing)" - yes, you do, you just start from opposite sites of the medallion, genius - that was sooo stupid, imho! The last moment to guilt-trip Erik into not leaving, without any telepathy being involved, the one time where I would have cheered "go for it!" - he pushes him away instead!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have a brain - use it! *killer headdesk*

Puha - now I feel better! *serene smile* ^-^
