"It's a lot to take, but they won't find us
It's a lot to take, I know; I know
It's a lot to fake, but pay no mind
'Cause this is how we're made, you know,
And so...!"

At Shimer, you can concentrate (basically, major) in Humanities, Social Science, or Natural Science here. Sounds like Humanities is your thing. No matter WHAT you concentrate in, though, you can go on from Shimer to do grad work in just about anything--ESPECIALLY something like English. We've had folks go on to get MFA's and so forth, too, if that's more the kind of art you're into. This is the virtue of a broad education. Even if you were interested in something like medicine, we could work it out so you could go straight to med school from here. So, worry not! We are both awesome and practical.
You also won't be living alone in Chicago, here. Check out the Shimer blog, blog.shimer.edu. It'll give you some insight into our students adventures in the city and what student life is like here. I mean, you can be alone-ish if you like, but Shimer's like a family. Also, we have a huge bunch of students who get very into National Novel Writing Month, among other things. If you want any of their email addresses to talk about creative writing here, just say the word. You can also find them in a facebook group called "So I'm thinking about going to Shimer"--there are folks asking for feedback on stuff they've written on the message board there.
