rec: 'Between Wind and Water' by Rex Luscus (PotC, Sparrington)

Just dropping by to rec the best fic I’ve ever read:

Between Wind and Water by Rex Luscus

Fandom: Pirates of the Caribbean
Length: EPIC
Pairing: Sparrow/Norrington
Warning: picks up where Curse of the Black Pearl leaves off, so should be considered AU for the rest of the PotC-verse.

Summary: “England and Spain are at war, and Norrington needs a quick solution to the Jack Sparrow problem. Meanwhile, Jack discovers that the Caribbean he once knew is gone. The deal they make could solve both their troubles, or it might be the worst mistake of their lives.”

Recced because: I love me some Sparrington. I also love shit-hot, period-accurate, epic tales of Naval warfare and piratical ingenuity. This fic has all that in spades. Set during the early part of the War of Jenkins’ Ear (which took place between Spain and England in the West Indies, 1739-1748), with spot-on characterisations, this is on a par in terms of plot with the best Age of Sail fics and even, dare I say it, approaches the heady heights of the Aubreyad with its cast of prideful Admirals, cunning Spaniards, and the author’s eye for period detail. I literally cannot recommend this fic highly enough. Be warned, once you’ve started reading, you won’t be able to stop until you’ve finished - and it is long.
