'Quite soon' apparently entails 20 minutes before the Master shows up, clean and NOT wearing a hoody. In fact, he's wearing clothing he'd carefully left in the labspace he'd claimed as a precaution. He's unshaven again but that's not as important as getting back to the flat.

Giving five-second-updates seemed ridiculous, so he's home without announcement, unlocking the door with a spare. Okay, it might be a bit surprising, but it's more efficient now that he's admitted to himself that he could end up back home at any point in time.

The lack of a hoody and dirt is a nice thing. It goes a long way toward convincing Lucy upon sight that he isn't going to eat her. She greets him with a grin, flinging her arms around his shoulders in a hug.
