Life: my brother has no sympathy - "at least you don't have a summer trig course"

I'm flying out of Germany in about a week. I'm stressed out with finals at the moment, but I'll be more or less done on Friday. I get to spend a few days in Italy with some friends, and the I really have to leave, all the way back to America ( Read more... )

Sinalco Cola?! But it's terrible!

It's a pity we weren't really in Germany at the same time because we could have babbled about fannish things :) And I would have understood ren faires (I'm surprised people don't understand them, though, because we have Mittelaltermarkt which is sort of similar...)

Noooo, Sinalco Cola is the only thing getting me through finals. It's amazing. But I also drink Dr. Pepper and lime Pepsi when I'm in the US, so I'm used to my cola choices being looked at with skepticism.

Aw, babbling would have been cool - it's really too bad the timing didn't work out. We could try and have a last-ditch meet-up if you were interested, but I'm sure you're pretty busy (and I know I am).

In any case, I think the deal with the ren faires was really more about trying to explain them as a lifestyle, rather than just a once-a-year deal. Once I hit on the Mittelaltermarkt, the festivals themselves made a lot more sense to people, but I don't think very many people got what I was trying to explain about how my family and I fit into a whole community. Though I did get better as time went on and more people asked, so... maybe this is just another example of needing more language skills.

I'm not busy at all right now, and I've never been to Tübingen - it really depends on how busy you are!

Okay, than we should totally make this happen! Hm. Unfortunately, this was just my last weekend - I'm traveling next weekend, and then flying out the weekend after, so it'd have to be on a week day, if that's cool. I'm mostly free on Wednesday, except for one class during the late afternoon. And I'm free both this Friday and next Friday, except for the packing I should do on both those days. I could probably push things out of this Thursday, if that's the best option. Basically, I am pretty busy, but I'm totally willing to clear one day and just do all of the work during the rest of the week.

Ah, hm, weekdays is a bit more difficult - I'd prefer to go by car because I just checked out train connections and rediscovered how criminally expensive Deutsche Bahn is compared to England (30 Euro one way - WTF? I could get from Durham to London for that price! although I did have a railcard in England, maybe that's the difference...), and during the week my mom will need the car to drive to work. So maybe it isn't that easy after all.

Yeah, I was thinking that might be a problem. Sorry! It would be really cool to meet up if you find an easier way, but I totally understand if it's too difficult. The trains really are expensive (see item number three on the stuff I won't be missing).

OR, as I just was reminded, the Baden-Wuerttemberg ticket will take you anywhere in the region on Nahverkehrszuege for a day, and it's 21 euros. I've used it to get to and from Stuttgart and Ulm before. But like I said before, I totally understand if a weekday is too difficult.

Your week is probably busy enough without trying to slot me in somewhere! Still, it's a pity, there aren't exactly a ton of Who fans in Germany (at least, not Who fans whose interests are compatible with mine).

Aha, yeah, you're probably right. But it is too bad - I've met a few Who fans here, and also have somehow managed to find a couple fannish people, but these two groups do not overlap :|
