Since we were a little strapped to vacate this holiday weekend, we decided to be productive. We're painting Spare-oom - I figure if we ever do manage to procreate, the least we could do is have a space to keep the dumpling. We had previously been using that room as random storage space. Good thing I took a 4 day weekend because it's taken nearly all of it to get done (actually still not totally done; must repaint ceiling, one wall and the door, and caulk and repaint a couple of cracks). It took all day Friday, 5 giveaway bags (goodwill and my sister) and three trashbags plus recycling to clean out the room. We (read - mostly the hubby and his gajilliondy gaming magazines) are apparently some packratting bastards. Then it took two days and two coats of primer and two coats of paint to hide the insidious vaginally-reminisicent pink color the previous owners had on the walls. Guh.
So what will we use the space for in the meanwhile? I'm thinking book storage (nothing as pretentious as a library - our house is smaller than a mouse fart). The one wall we have left to paint again will be painted white to contrast against the three sunny yellow walls (beeswax) and will have white book shelves from end to end. Maybe not all the way down as I want to leave room for storage bins at the bottom for eventual toy inhabitants. The room has no windows as the garage and living room were added on and blocked them out, so we're trying every way to lighten it up. I'm thinking maybe skylights eventually, and we're going to mount mirrors on the back wall to reflect light.
Maybe our contractor can quote us a couple of tube skylights when he quotes the new roof that we need. Thank you Fay, for giving us leaks in very awkward places (not the back of a VW bug) - in the closet, in the wall in the garage where there's no attic access). *smack* Ack. 20 year roof my ass. These shingles are 15 at best and are in sad, sad shape. Oh well, it's just money, right?
Ah wel - time to grab another cup of joe and some breakfast and then get back to it.
