So today I went swimming at night with Shae. We jumped into the black water in our underwear, and Shae without her glasses, something that would slip my mind the moment after she told me, but something she would obviously not be allowed to forget. We were imediately intimidated by everything we couldn't see below our knees, all the things our imagination would make up for us. But even so we continued further without a thought beyond how good of an escape from the heat this is turning out to be, until our feet could not touch, and still we went on. Of course, shortly after we became exausted and turned back, and in that moment that our feet touched again, a cool breeze that felt to our wet skin like ice blew past, our signal to surrender to the beach. So, feeling satisfied, we slowly wandered back, taking our time, becoming less curious of the water as it became more and more shallow. The water was back down to my knees, we were nearly there, when randomly a large black object that appeared to be flowing along with the waves of the water with its wings sailed inches in front of my toes, and my body went stiff and pushed my lungs into a scream. Poor Shae couldn't see a thing and started screaming too, frantically yelling and following after me toward the beach.
I don't care if it was Teal Lake, I bet you it was a manta ray.
