Ninja tag at work, get! thorny_blossom March 15 2010, 18:40:37 UTC
Her sword was still not done - Tomorrow, the synthesist has promised. Hopefully - which meant she still had nothing to occupy her time. The hotel bar was not yet fully renovated - it was getting there, the moogles assured her - so she chose to visit the noisy cafe across the street instead. She tended to stay away as a rule; the crowd irritated her, and she did not have much of a sweet tooth for pie, which appeared to be the special of the day every single day. Still, a woman needed to eat.

She found a table in the corner and sat down, assuming a moogle or one of the several hume servers would come to offer her the pie - and hopefully something more palatable, as well - sooner rather than later.

"Here you go," Xion says cheerfully as she sets the menu on the table. "I'm Xion, and I'll be your waitress today... Take as much time as you want to decide what you want. D'you want to start off with some water?"

Ashe looked up at the waitress - she was affiliated with the black cloaks, wasn't she? That name would indicate she was. She seemed so young and cheerful, but... well, cheer could be feigned. Then again, Ashe reminded herself, she had no reason to be suspicious at the moment. They would hardly attempt to poison her. She had not become that much of a nuisance. Yet. She shook off the dark thoughts, forcing herself to focus on the matter at hand. "Coffee, please," she asked. It was a bit different from the coffee on her world, but it was strong and somehow reminiscent of home. "Is there anything unique today?" Most of the town's citizens had grown thoroughly sick of the daily staples by this point; fortunately, the moogle chefs did occasionally come up with novelties, often from world Ashe had never heard of.

"Caffeinated, right?" Xion nods.

"Curry... udon's the special for the day," she says, taking a moment to make sure she's pronouncing the word right. "It's like... spicy noodles."

Woman of many words, this one~ thorny_blossom March 18 2010, 23:48:23 UTC
"Yes, please." As far as Ashe was concerned, that was the only kind. The other vile mixture was only suitable for pouring in the sewage and should not be called 'coffee' at all. "I will try it," she replied to the other. Curry wasn't bad - provided, of course, it was similar to curry on Ivalice - and she did not mind spice. It would be something different, at any rate.

"Okay," comes the reply. "I'll be right back."

She's... a little intimidating, Xion can't help but think as she returns to the counter. Still, it's my job to be friendly, right? And besides, she's curious. Even if she's shy, she can't help but be curious about new people. (Sometimes in her head, she jokes that it's the fault of the Sora in her.)

"I haven't seen you around here much," she says conversationally as she returns with the woman's coffee. She's not really sure where she's going with the topic, but it's something to talk about.

WHAT'S A NICE GIRL LIKE YOU DOING IN A PLACE LIKE THIS? thorny_blossom March 20 2010, 01:10:48 UTC
Ashe took the proffered mug and tasted its contents. Thankfully, the coffee was strong and black. No cardamom for flavor, but it would do for now. She had been settling for many things "for now" recently. The thought was a dark one, and she chased it away, turning her gaze instead on the young waitress, who seemed, for all intents and purposes, very human. It was somehow surprising. "Ah," she said, "yes, I suppose not. I am not one for crowds." Not any more, at any rate. How things changed...

BEING MOE. DUH. WHAT DID YOU EXPECT? memoryshell March 20 2010, 01:25:28 UTC
"I'm not, really, either," Xion says thoughtfully. "Well... I didn't used to be. I guess I don't have much of a choice here." But she still gets away to be by herself or to be with her friends by the end of the day, so it's not like she really chooses to be surrounded by people.

OH, WELL, NOW I UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING thorny_blossom March 20 2010, 01:32:22 UTC
An interesting turn of phrase, implying the girl had little say in her own fate. She was likely low in the hierarchy, but even so, it did not seem any of the black cloaks actively hated their respective assignments. She supposed the youngest, freshest faces had been placed here on purpose. Were they simply the most skilled actors? She could not help but wonder. "It is a place that throws many unlikely people together in even less likely circumstances," she agreed.

Xion's not really sure what to say to that. Normally she'd excuse herself and go take care of other customers, but... well, no one else needs her, and she feels a strange compulsion to just keep talking. She tries to think.

"I kind of wonder why sometimes," she finds herself saying. "But the only thing I can think of is that the world or... whatever drew us here... wanted to give us a second chance. At life, or at... something." Her ending sounds lame to her ears, but she really couldn't think of any other way to finish it.

Poor kid, wonder who Ashe thinks she looks like *lol* thorny_blossom March 20 2010, 04:10:47 UTC
A black cloak feeling conversational? Now there was an unexpected turn of events, but she was not above engaging in small talk if she thought she might learn something. She would face them, and soon. For now, however... "There are many here who would agree with you," she said congenially. "I wonder what your superior thinks? He is not very forthcoming with most of us."

"He doesn't tell anyone anything," Xion mutters before she can even think to stop herself. Distrust and dislike shade her tone, though she isn't aware of it.

She takes a moment to pause and pull herself together, then shakes her head. "I don't know what Xemnas thinks. I've never understood him."

That sounds like a plan~ thorny_blossom March 21 2010, 16:38:40 UTC
Ashe noted the unexpected distaste in the words. Either the girl was a superb actress, far better than the others, or else there was truly no love lost - in a manner of speaking, anyway - between her and her superior. "I find it strange that his orders are seemingly always followed, even by those to whom he explains nothing," Ashe said, risking little with idle conversation but in hopes of perhaps gaining some manner of information. "It must be frustrating to follow a leader who does not trust his subordinates with any manner of information."

"I'm working here because I want to." And it's true. She does want to work in the café. "It's something to do, and I get to work with my best friends... and it's fun. I'm not doing anything that I don't want to do." Not again. Not this time.

"Is that so?" Ashe asked. "You are fortunate, then, that this world has provided for you in such a way." Were it only so for her, and the others trapped here... but it seemed only the black cloaks, even those low on the hierarchy, could expect to enjoy such convenience. "Or perhaps simply fortunate that your leader is too occupied to dispense orders."

"Even if he did, I wouldn't follow them." Some part of Xion knows that it might not be such a good idea saying this in such a public place, but...

At the same time, she doesn't care. She'd tell the same thing to Saïx if he tried to give her a mission. "I don't want anything to do with the Organization. I'm through with being their puppet."
