Kefka has sobered up after his drinking with Xigbar and is now is on the hunt. He needs new boots since Xigbar blasted them and money to help buy more alcohol--he doesn't care about the bar but a drunken Xigbar is a Xigbar Kefka finds amusing and one he can...he can't remember much but it would keep him able to get in the hotel. And he can rub it in Saix's face.
So he's hunting. And sensing. And searching. And as he looks, the familiar tingle of darkness starts to creep up the back of his neck. He casts Float to keep him steady in the fight and Vanish to keep him hidden, then follows the heavy stain on his senses.
Whatever this thing is, it's big. And he's going to kill it and wear whatever hide it leaves behind before it poofs into smoke and hearts as his boots and Saix can suck it. And he can hear stomps as he approaches now, and it sounds bighugepowerful and ohimself he can't wait to fry it until his nerves sizzle with magic and the air is filled with a keening death cry--
Gabranth has no cause to notice the presence of another, even if he could pick apart the Vanished Kefka from his surroundings. All that matters to him now is the beast before him, which is already pawing the ground as it stares at him.
Even if he flees, it will find him eventually-or it will find Xion. He has no choice but to destroy this creature.
He charges at the thing, limbs granted speed by the anticipation of battle, and darts between its monstrous legs to slice at its underbelly-
-only to have his blade glance off entirely.
He can afford barely half a second of surprise before the creature's stomping legs force him to roll out of the way. The blade struck true, he had spared none of his strength... Could this thing truly be so powerful?
He comes into the clearing through the treetops and sees--first the creature, a dark humanid doll that made him flash Atma before Behemoth, but then he sees the horn and jagged lips and feels the hunger in it.
Kefka scans the scene. One, two, three targets: the creature, the creature's horn and...was that a flash of metal on the other side? The tinny ring of magic from it is familiar...
Well, he could use killing something sentient for a change. No one will ever know. He gestures, thrusting his hand into the air, and casts:
Gabranth hears the cast and crackle of Mist in the air, and he quickly dives back under the monster to avoid the burst of lightning that follows. But he can't stay there for long, and as one part of his mind wonders just who the hell cast that spell at him, the rest fixates on immediate survival; he darts back out from beneath the beast, to the other side this time, and quickly reconsiders his plan.
No, he has no time to worry about whoever was working against him-the monster took greater priority.
As the creature turned to face the direction of its invisible attacker, apparently unaffected by the spell, Gabranth charged it again, this time aiming to stab it above one of its hooves-and was sent back with a surprised cry as his blade, once again, bounced off its hide. What was this thing...?!
The lightning fizzles as it hits the horn and Kefka winces. That didn't work.
"Scan."
The thing was durable, the spell said, and...this is probably the first monster Kefka's ever seen with a weakness to earth. Why couldn't it live in his world?! Demi was a spell begging to be abused!
And what was that clanging sound? He leaps over from a treetop to see who it was...
He knew it.
"Hey, idiot! Attack the horn! Don't harm the hide! Get up on the monster's back!"
This was absolutely the last thing he needed right now. He backed away even further from the beast, still keeping it in his sight as a light grew between its tusks-he had a feeling he would need to dodge again, and soon, but-
The beast roars as its head is forced down, sending the blast of light skewing away from Gabranth. He hates the thought of trusting the man's advice-and should he really be getting so close to the thing's horn, considering what just happened?!-but he has little choice.
Steeling his resolve once more, he runs at the fiend. Its head is now in such a position that he can jam one end of his weapon into its lower jaw, and before it can roar again or snap at him, he's vaulting himself up, clambering past its tusk and onto its head with speed he hadn't thought possible in full armor.
He disengages his swords and strikes at the black horn, causing the monster to roar with such force that he's nearly thrown from its head altogether.
The spell makes the beast shudder again, but he trusts Gabranth to stay on the damn thing despite a little bucking. The edge of magic wisps and disperses over Gabranth's armor. Instant death protection? What a pity. He'll think of something else.
"Vanish! Make this count, Judge!"
The next spell settles over Gabranth like a cloak. If the creature attacks him now, it'll go through him...unless it's magic, of course, in which case it'll always hit--something Kefka will take advantage of if Gabranth makes it to the end of battle intact.
COMBAT LOG: Gabranth readies Enragetenacious_strayFebruary 16 2010, 07:01:26 UTC
He doesn't hear Kefka, nor does he even notice the spell settling over him. His focus is concentrated on not losing his balance; everything else is muted as he strikes at the horn, and searches within himself for that cold, calm center of rage, channeling it through his limbs and powering his blows...
One strike after another, the beast howls and tries to regain its footing, but the Gravity spell keeps it down. It starts to charge another blast, this time aiming for Kefka.
Kefka hops trees before the the creature can aim, almost missing the tree he's aiming for. Wiping his chin of dirt and bark bits, he focuses, gestures, casts--
The monster roars again as it shudders down even further, bucking against the forces attempting to slay it, and Gabranth only pauses to briefly regain his footing before stabbing the horn with all of his strength.
There is a sudden pause-almost as if time has stopped-and Gabranth feels the creature's movements fall limp beneath him.
The adrenaline leaves him as he withdraws his blades, and for the first time since he began his assault, he feels the quake of his breath and the pound of his heart. He looks down to figure out just how he's going to get off this thing-
Wait-why can't he see himself?
Moreover, is-is the fiend actually disappearing beneath him, or-
By the time he realizes it, however, it's too late. With a surprised yelp, he inelegantly crashes to the ground.
And it's at this point that Kefka's attention turns from the disappeared beast to the fallen judge. He can't see him persay but he can tell how he's landed.
"Wahahahahahaha!"
He's laughing so hard, his grip on a branch is pretty much the only think keeping him on the tree.
Gabranth groans, struggling to regain his senses as he forces himself upright. He briefly removes his helm to touch a hand to his head, massaging at the spot where he knows there is going to be a bump later-
Then he realizes fully that, somehow, he has turned invisible.
The laugh rings in his ears.
He replaces his helm and is on his feet in an instant, snarling as he recovers his weapon.
He can't take it. This monster impeding him, and now Kefka-being humiliated again and again, being treated as this jester's toy, finally finding someone to trust and yet being refused that same trust in turn-being forced to face the kind of man he truly is, by his own brother-knowing he may well never see his brother again, may never be able to face him as the kind of man he should be-
Gabranth can't take it anymore.
He howls with rage, ripping apart his swords and slicing at the empty air. A burst of Mist lances along the blades, giving them an unearthly orange glow.

For horn, for beast and for the man in a can.

The glove of magic shivers over the thing's horn, making it's head and shoulders shudder down with pressure. Does he have to do everything himself?

He's not going to be able to stop for a while, if only because he knows Gabranth won't be able to hit him in a thousand years, not like this.
