sorta hard to use the friends-of-friends route when you've just uprooted yourself and moved to a completely new city, unfortunately.
and considering the options, meeting people by ye olde livejournal doesn't seem like such a bad choice. (Search: near Brooklyn, NY) your list of interests keeps showing up on my mental romping grounds:
urbanism - why else would i have chosen new york over sunny california (the other option)
six feet under - this show brought our grad student house together; the one thing we all made time for out of our netflix queue. at the end of the second season we started to wonder whether it had gotten too depressing to be fun any more, though...
parentheses - s-expressions arguably make the most flexible data structures
oxford english dictionary - the hallmark of an English major worth her salt. instant adoration for owning one.
npr - why yes, yes i do listen to npr
logic puzzles - no, i never spent a summer playing with one of those.
language - the more i design programming languages, the more i see how all of those linguistic hacks in spoken languages are in some sense unavoidable.
grammar - you and my other friends
google - yes
eschewing sexuality/gender labels - somehow most of them don't fit so well. flexible, perhaps?
coffee - can we say addict?
being a dork - comes with the territory
atheism - yes
architectural theory - to the extent that being a fan of christopher alexander counts
alright! i think i was just taken a bit aback because i do think you'll see we're pretty different and was like "eh???", but i am into having a diverse friends list, and i am definitely into welcoming people to new york.
ps i only own the Shorter OED (two volumes), not the $1,000 26 volume set.
