Brokeback Mountain: i smiled a lot & cried a bit.

I'm back from watching Brokeback Mountain, these are my thoughts, kind of boring, but I love to keep track of my first impressions of movies.

for all you Amelias out there, THERE IS SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT!

What a cool movie. It had the air of hollywood without all the add-ons which was just what I needed after all these blockbusters coming out. I loved it how this movie started with no dialogue, it became really hilarious when Ennis (Heath) & Jack (Jake) were just standing there in front of the door waiting and not talking to each other...considering how you knew about what was going to happen. And then it is only sheep for about fifteen minutes which is cool, i think that some people would find it boring but actually it was rather riveting. Lots of sheep walking along, lalalalala, Ennis & Jack eat some food, lalalalala, they start drinking, lalalalala (hahahaha, sometime during all of this Jack tries to cook and said the only thing he excelled at was opening cans and then he tries to open a can and messes it up, so funny), then Ennis starts talking for the first time about his life:

Jack: That's more words than you've spoke in the past two weeks.
Ennis: Hell, that's the most I've spoke in a year.

AND THEN......it all starts happening when they stay in their (pretty amateur) tent one night because it was cold out. Everyone was laughing in the cinema when Jack suddenly grabbed Ennis arm and wrapped it around him...and then they started getting undressed and it kind of looked like they were killing each other & loving each other during this whole thing which made it weird but totally awesome. My favourite bits were when they were rolling around on the hills together, again looking like they were love-fighting considering that they started punching each other and causing serious injuries. ............ then they had to leave each other because the summer was over, it only happens once right?

After all this they strangely both got married two their girlfriends which was fine but seriously rushed in a fun-lovable way. Anne Hathway was a big surprise, i didn't expect to see her in this movie. Michelle Williams was brilliant, especially when Jack returned to take Ennis fishing (not really fishing) and she saw them kissing and then she made the funniest face. It was sad yet so funny at the same time. And then Jack said about his child, "I got a boy. Eight months old. Smiles a lot." hahahahahaha, funniest quote. The other great bit was when Alma (Michelle) and Ennis go luging down a hill during the winter and they both fall off and Ennis starts rolling down the hill and becoming aggressive with her like he was with Jack....yet, it just wasn't the same was it Ennis?, she didn't really go for the whole fighting thing.

The best was when these two cowboys were together wearing their hats and not fishing. It was hilarious sometimes.

Jack: [looking over at Ennis in the firelight; he has laid back and is looking up at the stars, smiling] Anything interesting up there in heaven?
Ennis: I was just sending up a prayer of thanks.
Jack: For what?
Ennis: For you forgettin' to bring that harmonica. I'm enjoyin' the peace and quiet.

Still, it was strikingly obvious that this was painful for them, trying to figure out how they would be together when they couldn't. And then came the back-story from the past reminiscent of the future, giving the story context and a dreadful place to go:

Ennis: I tell ya there... there were these two old guys ranched up together, down home. Earl and Rich. They were pretty tough ol' birds. Anyway they... they found Earl dead in an irrigation ditch.

Damn, that was sad. It was a total surprise when Jack died for the same reason, i guess someone found out about him. It became so depressing and sorrowful when Ennis went into Jack's bedroom and found his old shirt and offered to take Jack's ashes to Brokeback Mountain. Ennis hardly spoke in this film yet I still felt for his suffering, that's good acting, on both actors parts. That was the worst part I thought, when Jack didn't rest where he wanted to at Brokeback. Ohhhhh, i love movies that make me cry.

Directing: awesome, Casting: brilliant (kind of weird with Jack's wife with blonde hair & Jack's moustache), Cinematography: not striking but perfect for the mood. Script: random in some places, but it covered everything & did justice to the type of story.

The movie was enjoyable and sorrowful because it showed something I haven't seen in film before thus things seemed a little strange and off-putting but none-the-less the entire film was magnificent.

my favourite picture!   + i randomly watched Down With Love today, good film.

movies are my playground love
