[Private to L || Unhackable] I was unaware of the existence of your world and your situation in it. I screened your name, however, as I sensed your wish to keep your identity as a secret.
((ooc: In other words, if your L hadn't told Near that he was Ryuzaki at the beginning, Near would have said his name in public instead of privately (^^;; I feared that I couldn't stop Near from doing such a thing, but things turned out to be naturally very lucky for L!))

Correct. Lawliet is an alias that the Near from my world does not know. That is why I acted warily towards you during our last conversation. I apology for being distrustful.

...An alias?
My world's L is a teacher. He used to be a detective, but due to certain circumstances I do not know much about, he had to retire. His mind was truly brilliant, albeit also weak and far from impartial.
I have a question regarding Beyond Birthday. Is he your brother?
[Private to Near || Unhackable]lawful_lApril 20 2008, 14:47:20 UTC
Alias, noun; a false name used to conceal one's identity; an assumed name. Let’s only use the word ‘name’ from now on.
Weak and biased, you say...? I don’t think those words suit me at all. What makes you think that of him? And no, he is not. I assume that L and Beyond were siblings in your world, correct?
[Private to L || Unhackable]never_ever_nearApril 20 2008, 14:57:01 UTC
...... You sound pretty frustrated and defensive regarding your alias. May I ask why are you hiding an alias from Near?
Perhaps we should call this an information exchange. I am willing to tell you everything you wish to know about my world-- however, please consider that curiosity is mutual.
[Private to Near || Unhackable]lawful_lApril 20 2008, 15:07:22 UTC
I’m sorry- Did I give that impression? I believe you’ve misunderstood me. I was just answering to your question, Near. As for the alias, my reason is clear.
Every name is a weapon. People normally think that names are just some letters put together, but the truth is that an unknown name can represent either salvation or destruction. Lawliet is not a mere alias to me. It’s a backup.
[Private to L || Unhackable]never_ever_nearApril 20 2008, 15:33:56 UTC
I shall assume that the Near from your world is a fool who lacks vocabulary, therefore your defensive "answer to my question" was actually serious and not meant as an insult to my intelligence.
Mr. Lawliet always allowed his brother to torture him, his mind was too weak to do something to stop him. When Beyond attacked an unimportant student, Mr. Lawliet kept silent about the matter, trusting that the student would be silent as well. However, when Beyond attacked a student Mr.Lawliet seemed to truly care for, he finally decided to do something about the matter and sent his brother to a mental institution. As I said, he was weak and biased.
Is your true name necessary for a God of Death to kill you?
[Private to Near || Unhackable]lawful_lApril 20 2008, 15:47:37 UTC
Ah- Your tolerance to jokes is clearly lower than his. I will keep that in mind.
…I see. I must admit that he did have a weak mind. Your words are implacable. Do you hold a grudge against him? Luckily, the B from my world and I don’t share any blood bond.
You are quite well-informed. It is necessary, yes. However, hiding your name from them will not prevent anything from happening.
[Private to L || Unhackable]never_ever_nearApril 20 2008, 16:03:46 UTC
Please accept my apologies. I am unaccustomed to jokes, and I have been taking this conversation seriously.
Mr. Lawliet was my inspiration, but I have never been blind to his weaknesses; it was only his brilliant brain -not his weak personality- that kept me interested.
It was actually just an idea I got after talking to the Shinigami who seems to know you. I am aware that hiding your name from a Shinigami is completely useless, which means that someone else must have obtained a killing power similar to a Shinigami's, albeit they lack the ability to see through a fake name.
The main point I am after is that shinigamis do not exist in my world. I believe that Mr. Lawliet had no reason to hide his true name...

Jokes don’t turn serious conversations into trivial ones. A joke is just something said or done to evoke laughter or amusement, to relieve tension. However, I am sorry for behaving inappropriately.
I see your point, but still you are assuming too much. Taking into account that we are from different worlds, our names might be different as well. Is Near your true name?
On the other hand, wasn’t Lawliet a detective? All retired detectives use an alias. That’s almost an universal law.
[Private to L || Unhackable]never_ever_nearApril 20 2008, 18:10:27 UTC
I am aware that even if L Lawliet was his real name, the fact you are not Beyond Birthday's brother already proves that things might differ greatly. But you are right, perhaps it has been a fake name for the L from my world as well. I suppose it will always remain a mystery.
Near is an alias I received back in the orphanage, albeit I do not keep my real name a secret. I should do it in this world, however.

May I ask what your symbol is?

Given the nature of our first conversation, I shall introduce myself again.
I am L. My name, however, is Ryuzaki here.

What do you know about my situation?

I sense that is not the whole story, however, but since I am a mere outsider, I do not expect to be informed about all the details.

I would like you to tell me about your L.
