 Part One

The first thing Morgan got aware of when he woke up was the smell of freshly made coffee and he couldn’t help but smile at the very thought of having coffee. But unfortunately that bliss didn’t last long because along with the consciousness came the terrible headache which could only mean one thing - he had one too many drinks last night.

Morgan sighed and rubbed his temple. Despite of the act he put for everyone, he was no longer in that age when you could drink yourself into oblivion and then the next morning be as good as new. It was a good thing he left the bar soon enough, because if he hadn’t, God knows what stupid things he could have done. But if wasn’t that bad. Right now all he needed was that heavenly cup of coffee and a shower.

Suddenly a thought crossed his mind and Morgan bolted up straight out of bed. Yet his head immediately made him regret the action. Still, who on Earth has made the coffee? As far as he remembered Clooney hadn’t perfected that habit yet. Drinking was definitely a bad idea.

Dreading what he might find, Morgan stepped out of the bedroom and followed the smell of coffee. Soon enough he found a very much awake and a very worn-out looking Dr. Reid sitting in his kitchen, sipping coffee. Oh God, no.

“Reid…?” Morgan started carefully, not sure how to initiate the conversation, which might actually explain what the young doctor was doing in his apartment so early in the morning.

“Oh good, you’re awake, I’m sorry if I woke you up, I swear I tried being as quiet as possible.” Reid burst out in an explanation with a speed that might make some TV reporters jealous, but as of right now the only thing it deed was hurt Morgan’s hurting head. Oblivious to his pain, Reid continued. “And I made some coffee, you want any? Judging by the look you have you do need it. And did you know that If you like your coffee sweet, you should use granulated sugar, which dissolves more quickly, rather than sugar cubes. And white sugar rather than brown sugar or candy.  And real sugar rather than sweeteners which alter the taste of the coffee, and…”

“Oh God!” Morgan groaned. His head was exploding now “Reid, please, for the love of whatever it is you geniuses believe in, please shut up.”

“Um, sorry.” Reid’s face was bright red now and he turned a couple of times around, not quite sure what to do with himself. “Listen, I see that you are not feeling well, I should probably go.”

“And not waiting for an answer he practically ran out of the kitchen. Before Morgan’s hangover mind could process what has just happened, Reid was already out of the apartment.

Not in any shape to think about the whole situation, Morgan returned into his bedroom and as soon as his head hit the pillow, he was asleep.

A few hours later, when the clock on his bedside table showed that it was way past lunch time, Derek Morgan finally woke up. But not voluntarily, but because his phone was buzzing somewhere on the floor.

Morgan considered ignoring it, but soon gave up on the idea. Whoever was on the other side of the line was apparently very persistent.

“What?” He grumbled, not bothering to see who was calling.

“What what? Is that a way to greet your queen of awesomeness?” Garcia’s cheerfulness did nothing good to his headache. “Tell me I didn’t wake you up.”

“You did. And baby girl, I love you, that’s why I’m going to hang up now, so that I won’t have to apologize on Monday for saying something hurtful.”

“Oh my, someone had a rough night.” Garcia sing-songed.  “Too bad. Guess I won’t be able to tell you what I found out about our resident genius. Such a shame. Well, have a good day sleep honey.”

“Baby girl, wait!” Morgan screamed and winced at the sound of his own voice. “I’m sorry. Do tell.”

“Oh well, if you insist - I spoke to my sources and learned that Reid has neither accepted nor turned down that job thing. I suppose it’s good news…” Garcia said hopefully. “We might actually try to talk to him and consider him staying.”

Reid. Job. Staying. Now it all made sense to Morgan - at least he remembered why he got himself into that condition. Though that didn’t explain why Reid was in his apartment this morning, unless…

“Oh no…” Morgan moaned into the phone. “Baby girl, I might have done something very stupid.”

“Tell me something new. You are clearly hangover.” Garcia laughed. “What did you?”

“I’m not quite sure, but I’ll find out. Thank you for calling, I’ll talk to you later, okay?”

“Sure.” Garcia answered, but it was already too late, because Morgan has hung up.

Morgan all but run from his bedroom to the bathroom and hopped in the shower. He had some genius boy to talk to and it couldn’t wait.

***

No matter how determined Morgan was to talk to Reid, because of the condition he was in, he still couldn’t hurry that much. That’s why it was already dark outside when he found himself knocking on Reid’s door.

“Morgan, um, hi. What are you doing here?” Reid said, looking even worse than he did in the morning. And Morgan couldn’t help but point that out.

“Kiddo, how come I got so hammered last night, and you still manage to look worse?”

Reid wrapped his arms self consciously around his body and Morgan yet again realized that comments like that were not a good conversation starters. Especially not with Reid.

“Okay, listen kid. I’ll come clear here and I want you to do the same. Okay?”

“Okay.” Reid answered automatically, looking perplexed. Funny but that only made him look more adorable.

“Yesterday when you got home and we were in the office, Garcia told us some British lady was calling for you, and us being ourselves, we insisted that Garcia checked her up and she found up that lady was offering you a very good job. And I’m sorry to say that, but I don’t want you to go.” Morgan realized that it sounded stupid and selfish, but he promised a full disclosure, so he might as well do it. “And I know that it’s a good opportunity, and I know that you are wasting your talents in the FBI and that you are not getting paid merely enough for the job you are doing, and I know all that, but still, it’d suck to let you go.”

Morgan breathed out and looked at Reid who was looking stunned that someone was able to talk as fast as he usually did.

“That’s why I got drunk last night - I was working up the nerve to tell you not to go. And maybe I did, or maybe I didn’t, I don’t really remember. So if you tell me what happened last night, it’d be very nice.  And a glass of water would be nice too.” He added.

Apparently still processing the information he just got, Reid went to the kitchen and a few moments later came back with a glass, that he handed to Morgan, before sitting down.

“Nothing happened yesterday.” Reid said not sure why he was feeling so disappointed that nothing happened. And not sure what exactly he was referring to. “You sent me a text, late at night, asking me to come to your place, because it was an emergency. I did as I was told, but you were so drunk that you passed out on the bed. But you asked me not to leave so I stayed. Now I realize that you might have been talking about me not leaving the BAU, not your apartment.” Reid smiled. “That could have saved me some restless night.”

Morgan smiled despite himself. The kid did look so freaking adorable. Yet something else should be cleared.

“And what about the job.” Seeing how Reid’s smile faded away, Morgan recognized the signs - the kid was about to close up. “Come on man, full disclosure, remember?”

“Um, okay… Yesterday, on the plane, I overheard Hotch and Rossi talking about some budget cuts and financial problems that the FBI and the BAU were facing.”

“Yeah, so?” Morgan didn’t get what that had to do with the whole thing. “There have been financial problems as long as I can remember.”

“Yes, I know, but Hotch said that Strauss was considering making some cuts, and…Even after JJ, and after… Emily. She still thought that there were too many people on the team or something like that…”

Oh. Oh… Now he got it.

“Kid, you didn’t! Please tell me you are not considering taking that job to save us from cuts.”

“I… Morgan, you said it, it’d be a good opportunity for me. And it’d be better for the team, if I leave voluntarily, not if someone gets fired or transferred, and…”

“Oh shut up.” Morgan interrupted him angrily. And he was indeed angry. “Kid, who on earth gave you the right to decide for all of us? No one would be better with you gone. No one! Especially not me.”

“But…”

“No buts! We already lost so much. We can’t, I can’t lose you too.” Morgan said quietly, looking at Reid, who still looked uncertainly at the ground.”

“Kid, look at me.” He ordered softly and Reid obliged. “I don’t want you to go. Not now, not ever.”

“Why?” Reid whispered.

“Just because.” Morgan answered and then surprised them both by scooting over to Reid’s part of the couch and gently pressing his lips to the other man’s.

A few seconds later they broke apart and Reid just looked shocked while Morgan smiled.

“Interesting.” He said. “So Sarah was right. It is like THAT.”

“Who’s Sarah?” Reid could help but ask.

“Not important.” Morgan said and leaned it for another kiss. Oh yeah. Just like THAT.
