I think that the world would be better off without texting capabilities, e-books and twitter. None of these items should be nessecary. I'm interested in technology that adds to life rather than detracts.
Texting has caused many otherwise ordinary people to become preoccupied with their drab and pitiful lives. When your day consists of sending scant text messages you know that your life is meaningless. I do not own a texting plan and I will not purchase one. I have sent five text messages. They all were in the vein of : I'm here, I'll be there at 5 pm and 'Okay'. Why are conversations that consist of "How r you"? So damn important? They aren't. I'm constantly irritated by students who text their friends during class. I give worthy people who stand beside me preference over someone sending me little messages on a cellphone. The idea of sending texts like emails is useful, but what they have become is dangerous. Carrying on simple conversations like IM messages cheapens the value of writing and causes conversation to become meaningless. If I choose to talk to a person it will be because he or she is sitting beside me.
I would never buy an electronic book. I love paper books because they're comfortable, cheap and priceless. I can read them anywhere, sell them and loan them without cause. An E-book is not necessecary and certainly risks being pilfered. I would not own a machine created to view books when I could visit the library. They are just a new way for people with too much money to toss it around. I will never buy one even if I am a millionaire someday. I could probably purchase thirty used paperbacks or one kindle. I'll take the paperbacks! Information in any form is valuable... why pay more for it? I do not see how e-books positively contribute to our lives.
Twitter, gives people a new disease similar to narcissism. Their imagined self importance balloons to astronomical quanities! I'm not interested in the daily lives of other people. Okay, maybe that's a lie; I'm a nosy person. I'm interested in reading full sentences describing NOTEWORTHY and thought provoking events from the lives of others. Blogs are an excellent idea but twitter, sadly, is not. If a person can not even try to write/type in full sentences why are they worth listening to?
