Why Am I A Christian?

Some of you probably guessed it from the beginning, when i started this community, that i would end up switching sides. spakspang once called me Israel (as in Jacob) because, as he put it, i was the kind of guy who would pick a fight with God, and i wouldn't relent until he broke something. Great testimony Shawn, thank you so much for sharing it. Yours indeed has been a great struggle but it's so good to know that God never abandons us and is soooooo committed to helping us get back to where we were meant to be.

And you are so right in your statement: "but i maintain that if God really is who he says he is, he can handle me." I think there are too many Christian out there who do not share their struggles with God because they believe it to be blasphemous at worst or faithless at least. If I can say anything to my struggling Christian friends it is that God desires to share every part of our lives, He wants to help us through our struggles and He can't if we don't allow Him too. We allow Him into our lives when we are totally honest about how we feel about things. We can't hide anything from Him anyway -- He knows all our thoughts, He knows what we struggle with and He is not a God who is offended or shocked by human behaviour. That is why I so enjoy the Psalms -- David shared every thought and emotion with God and God was patient with Him through it all -- as David shared we see him coming out on the other side always praising God. God indeed is our Rock and our Fortress. He is the greatest Friend anyone could ever hope to have.

Glad to know that you know Him on such an intimate level now Shawn, things will only get better and better for you. God bless.
