If Clark had thought that Lex was prone to overindulgence before, he had been sadly mistaken.
Nothing could have prepared Clark for a Lex who’d been given free reign to regularly whisk his “brother” to the city, to do with as he pleased.
At least, the whisking was how Lex had interpreted the Kents’ concession that Lex had a right to share in more of Clark’s time. Every afternoon Clark was allowed to visit Lex at the mansion, and every other weekend Clark was allowed to stay with Lex there or at the penthouse in Metropolis.
Clark’s father grumbled as his mother announced that brothers needed time together to bond properly. Lex took the “bonding” suggestion literally and stocked the penthouse with silk ropes.
Jonathan balked while Martha insisted Clark be allowed to accept gifts from Lex now. He would have to get used to a bit of extravagance if he was going to be a part of Lex’s family, was Martha’s reasoning. Lex smiled like a shark when he heard it and promptly hired Clark a tailor, a stylist, and his own driver. So that the cars that Lex had bought him could be cared for - there were way too many for Clark to see to their needs on his own.
Clark would have protested but, honestly, as long as he had an explanation for it to keep his parents from having heart attacks… Being overindulged by Lex felt really nice.
It was just a little frustrating. Now that he was part Luthor, Clark spent a lot of time with Lex in Metropolis. And in Metropolis, what went on around Lex went Lex’s way.
For balance, whenever they were back home in Smallville - on the Kents’ farm - Clark made sure Lex did things Clark’s way. All sorts of things. And he used some of the Luthor money he now had access to to lavish his parents with gifts. Dinners in nice restaurants. Weekends in fancy hotels and fine resorts.
Gifts that ensured Clark would have the farm - and Lex - all to himself for entire evenings.
Then he was the one initiating the “bonding” session between himself and his “big brother”. He was the one plying Lex with presents. He didn’t even mind the embarrassment of having to shop in the kind of store where these presents were bought. It was worth it every time, to see the expression on Lex’s face when he opened the unmarked paper bag containing Clark’s latest surprise.
It was worth it to hear Lex’s heartbeat pick up whenever they walked into the barn - even for innocent reasons - and Lex’s eyes fell on the harness hanging over the workbench, remembering.
Maybe Clark got carried away from time to time, but the way he saw it, Lex was getting the better half of the deal. The things they did in Metropolis that discomfited Clark involving tux fittings and social appearances.
It was much more fun indulging in watching Lex squirm for once. For both of them.
