I loved it :D As did the kids, of course. I can't say Hoffman beats Gene Wilder for the best portrayal of an other-worldly man-child - because having enjoyed Willy Wonka so much as a child makes the words sacrilege - but I want to. Wilder gave Wonka this sorta iffy, trickster personality and Hoffman's Magorium is like your grandfather if he was magical and awesome and really, really liked shoes ;p He's less creepy than Wonka and even more loveable.

Oh good! I always found Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka super creepy. I loved the books, but could not watch the movie for the Wonka factor.
