Ivan's Fury. . .

Well. . . hmmm. . . I don't know where to start. Ivan has come and gone and sure did leave a trail here in Western NC. So far the death toll in NC is 8 and 4 are missing from a mudslide. Progress Energy and Duke Power said this has been the worst storm, in NC, since the blizzard of 93. I was without power from Thursday night until about an hour ago and without phone from Friday until earlier today. There are still thousand of homes without power and phone service.

I have a couple of God stories though! Alright, I had a late class on Thursday night so I was driving home up the mountain from SC during the start of the storm. Well, anyone who knows 25, knows that it is very dangerous during bad weather. Well I hydroplaned, did three 360's, then went into the ditch. I busted up my knee pretty good on the dash when I went spinning, I can't put much weight on it, but that's it! No other injuries! AND there is no damage to my car!!! NONE! I seriously thought I was going to flip when I went in the ditch or hit the barricade median when I was spinning. Our God is such an awesome God!

After I got myself together, and a man pulled me out of the ditch with his truck, I drove back home. I pulled into my drive and right behind my car, a big tree fell. . . if I was 2-3 seconds slower, the tree would have fallen on my car, on the driver's side. Twice in less than 20 minutes God spared my life. Apparently He hs some awesome plan for my life because I should have died that night, but He had other plans. I don't want to take another day for granted.

There was one death in Henderson County (where I live for those who don't know). His name was Jay Walker and he was killed early Friday morning when a tree fell on him while he and his wife were sleeping. I have had the privilege to volunteer with him over the past 5 years. Also, he was my Red Cross CPR/First Aid instructor for the past 6 years. I have to give him credit for getting me interested in the medical field. He was an incredible man.

That's about all. Keep praying for Western NC though, there are a lot of people that need it.
