So hey's, here's an idea for a meme I'm gonna try out.

The Random Words Meme
>> Specify a character, characters and/or pairing.
>> Go to a random word generator and get TWO RANDOM WORDS.
>> Post them both here and I'll write you a fic of whatever length pertaining to them!

>>Retries are okay if you get boring words; multiple requests are okay, ( Read more... )

The princess reminded her of her Shadow. Which was unfair, of course; she had nothing to do with the TV World, was all sweetness and light - a little like Rise-san there - and was, in fact fictional. The girl shot a look sideways at Chie, Yosuke and Souji taking up the rest of the couch, controllers in all their hands.

"Are you sure, Chie? I mean..."

"Arrrgh, just pick already!" Yosuke groaned, flopping back in the seat. "You've been thinking about it for like ten minutes!"

Chie got a pained groan out of him as she slung an elbow into his side. Yukiko couldn't see it, but Souji just smiled.

"It's alright, Yukiko. Just hit the random button if you can't decide. Ultra Crash Friends has always had a lot of characters, anyway."

"Random...okay." she said, moving the cursor to the Random selection and hitting it. She watched the cursor flip around spasmodically, frowning. Who was it going to pick?

"Man, finally...thought she'd nev- ow! What the hell, Chie!"

With an electronic clatter, the cursor settled; Yukiko blinked. The pink princess again.

"Well...alright. I guess it's fate, then." she murmured; Yosuke made a grateful sound as Souji pushed the button for them to get into the game.

They were four levels in before Yukiko made the connection, far too busy with making her princess - who was pretty violent, caving in the enemies heads with golf clubs and saucepans - not die.

"Wasn't this a cartoon awhile back?" she asked. Chie nodded, tongue sticking out of the side of her mouth as she maneuvered her blue-clad racing man around the screen with a flurry of kicks and punches.

"Uh-huh. It used to be this awesome videogame with all the characters from this one company, then they let a bunch of other game companies use their characters, until it eventually got turned into a cartoon. Then they used the cartoon to turn it into a game again."

"No idea how that works." Yosuke snorted; he'd chosen a green-clad swordsman, hair flowing behind him as he cut through the masses alongside Chie's character. Souji, she noticed, seemed to be watching their back, picking off the hordes on enemies on their tail along with her. What was that he was using...some sort of pink puffball? It kept swallowing the things and taking their powers.

Yukiko triggered a special attack as she reached over to get her drink; the screen exploded into a flurry of pink, every enemy onscreen getting a rain of kitchen projectiles on their head, skewered and beaten. The group fell into silence as every enemy fell simultaneously, leaving the screen blank but for their characters, the cheery background music, and a flashing 'FORWARD! ->' marker.

"...damn." Yosuke breathed, looking up at Yukiko. "How the hell'd you do that?"

"I...don't know." Yukiko replied, looking down at her controller, then back up at her princess.

...maybe she liked this one after all.
