today for the first time, i listened to this song by MGMT:

there's something about it that i really like. i mean, it's a reasonably well-made pop song, imo, but there's something else...
here's a little interview with them. they seem to embody things that were good and not-so-good about the 60's and 70's psychadelic explosion:

in any case, there's something about this that i really like. also something unpleasant about it for me, i think. the successes and failures of the psychadelic movement(s) are recapitulated. maybe we could do with those failures rather than our current lack of imagination. in any case, take heart: mutants are everywhere.
