quite a while ago, i talked about messing around with binaural beats with this little program:
http://uazu.net/sbagen/ well, a friend of mine has been on the holosync program for a while and swears by it. holosync is a long program of audio cds which make use of binaural beats as a method of trying to affect positive changes in the listener. my friend over here reports having been able to clear a lot of emotional cruft as a result of the program.
so i decided to set up an exploratory experiment using sbagen. everything you need for it (except for the sbagen program itself, which is at link listed above) is here:
http://www.namelessnumberhead.com/other/experiment1.zip(the included python script does not need to be used)
basically, i'm listening to 12 different beat frequencies (3 for each well-known eeg frequency band) at 3 different carrier frequencies each, thus yeilding 36 rounds of listening. each of these rounds consists of listening for half an hour and filling out a small report before, immediately after, and at least half an hour after.
the experiment is exploratory in that i'm just trying to catalogue the subjective effects (if any) on a basic level (particularly the effects on mental focus and calmness) while cutting down as many variables as possible in the listening experience itself (no pink noise or river sounds, etc).
if anyone cares to try out the experiment themselves, i'd be very interested in comparing notes. i'm trying to do at least one a day, and hopefully there will be a few days where i squeeze in two, bringing the time to completion to about a month.
i've only done 3 so far, but it's proving very interesting already for me. anyway, there it is, for those who dare. also, if anyone has ideas for how to improve it, drop me a line.
