There was the familiar sound of his door opening and Loki looked up. A woman stood there, hand on the handle, looking unsure. Had she walked through the wrong door maybe and was now wondering whether to apologise or just walk out?

Loki was bored, though. A visitor promised entertainment. He did not want her to go.

"Hello," he greeted in the first language that came to mind, which just happened to be an old variant of Icelandic. "You look familiar."

"Are you trying to be funny? I'm not understanding a word", Sphix said. She stepped away from the door, closer to the god. "I came to say good bye. For what it's worth."

"Oh," Loki realised. "I speak several languages and I didn't even know it. Why are you going?"

If she'd come to say good bye, she must know him, he thought. But he didn't know her and that was a real pity. He wished he had the chance to get to know her.

"Are you going far away? Will you be back soon?" Maybe he could go visit her, if he ever got better, or maybe she'd visit him again when she returned.

Sphix scowled at Loki.

"Your mind is still messed up, isn't it? Why, they couldn't even let you die in peace." She shook her head. "I don't know how far I will go. Somewhere else, in any case. The police is here, and I do not wish to deal with them."

"We won't be seeing again. By the time I could contact you, you will already be dead."

His mind was mixed up? Well, that could explain why he couldn't remember anything.

"Who's they?" Perhaps he ought to take measures to protect himself from them? But would he remember that long enough to go through with it? "What is the police? Is it a bad thing?"

He didn't have any memories of the police, though there were some emotions connected to the word, rater contradictory emotions. Did he like or fear the police?

"You can't even remember that?" Sphix grimaced. "Why am I bothering with this?" She was certainly going to get nothing out of this, seeing how she was about to leave and all that. She continued, anyway. "Anathema, Loki. Anathema Device. That irritating little mortal was behind it. She and two others. One of them was called... John, I think. John Constantine, that was it... And the last one I remember very well. They called him Bill. A mortal, with red hair and a wand. Why, he thinks I'm some sort of animal instead of a person. The insolence! You wouldn't want to meet any of them, Loki. Not after what they did to you." Sphix leaned closer and hissed at Loki's face. "Maybe you should write it down. If they didn't rob you of the knowledge of letters as well ( ... )
