Date: June 22, 2000
Status: Private - Ellie and Gabriel (complete)
Setting: The Manor Grounds
Summary: Gabriel takes care of some unfinished business.

He'd considered for a time bringing Belial with him, simply for the buffer the demon's presence might offer. But whether it was because in his heart he felt he deserved any retribution he might receive for having delayed this meeting, or simply because he'd grown used to unpleasant encounters during his stay in the manor, Gabriel eventually made his way to the meeting place alone.

He hadn't spoken to her since their last encounter in Constantine's empty bedroom, but he'd known as he'd left her the note - this one, unlike most of the messages he delivered, done in his own tidy scrawl - that Chantinelle would not hesitate to meet him. He remembered with a pang of guilt the fire in her eyes when last they'd met.

"You could find out, though, couldn't you?"

And he had, through his own means as well as the imp's accidental revelation managed to piece together a story with as yet an unsatisfying conclusion; but a conclusion much less painful than he'd expected, and that, at least, Gabriel was glad to be able to report.

The sun was only partially hampered by clouds as he stepped out into the gardens, the leaves of surrounding trees casting fluttering shadows across the paths. It was perhaps a bit of a cliched meeting spot for a succubus, though he doubted very much that this place shared more than a few graceful curves the fire-gardens inhabited by her kind. But he hadn't wanted such business to taint the walls of the room that was now as much his as Belial's, and the infirmary was still occupied; and besides, perhaps it was only fair to seek out more neutral ground.

And so he sat on a bench near the door, watching the faint breeze stir the trees, and waited.

gabriel, ellie
