...Dad? Bro?

[He's silent for a moment, as if expecting an answer.]

Where the fuck are you guys? Where the fuck is this? [He hasn't bothered to do any poking around of his own. He prefers to just be given the information he asks for.]

I, uh, sustained some injuries, so - [A few seconds of silence, and then a sigh of relief.]Or I guess I didn't ( Read more... )

[Vlad is at his desk in vest and shirtsleeves, a raven-feather quill pen in his hand and a fire in the small hearth in the background.]

They don't pay attention to threats around here, my young friend, but you do get to keep the communications-machine.

This is neither Hell nor Heaven, though you can find scraps of each if you look well enough. You did die, however. We all did.

Wow, what are you supposed to be? [And that's about all the energy he has for making fun of Vlad right now.]

And I don't really feel dead right now. I feel pretty fucking great, actually. And I haven't heard of any sort of afterlife that involves chatting on fancy phones with random people.

"A Voivode who is rapidly becoming bored. And neither did I until it happened to me.

"Piece of advice; make a thorough exploration of your environs before you dismiss this place or jump to any conclusions. I spent a night and a half assuming I was in Hell and it was completely unnecessary."

I'll look around, I guess. Find whoever's in charge. I got something to show him.

[He reaches into his pocket for his knife. And then his other one. And then back to the first one again.]

...Okay. Well, someone fucking robbed me. Do you happen to know anyone here who makes a habit of stealing?

[A wry little smile] Yes. He is called the Admiral, and he stole a great deal from me when I first came here. They take from us anything that they think may be used to harm others, and restrict us further with rules.

Good luck finding him, however. I have been searching for weeks, and it seems the rumors about both his power and his mysteriousness are entirely true.

Yeah? So, are there a lot of like-minded people looking for this guy? I'm not much of a team player outside of family, but somebody took shit from me and I think that somebody needs to wish he was never born.

There are a lot of like minded people who are very displeased with this "guy", as you put it, and would eagerly take back what is ours. Unfortunately there are a number of others on the Admiral's side, and they will hasten to tell you that the robbery was somehow for your own good.

I'm the one who'll be deciding what's for my own good.

You one of the ones in for rehab, too, then? Some cop guy told me about that.

An excellent attitude. I always find it confusing how many here think that they can guilt, coerce, rule-pull or threaten us into changing when in reality, every inch of what we do is ultimately our choice.

Yes, I am also an inmate.

Bit of advice...there are some complete dribbling madmen aboard. Watch your periphery. [He scribbles down a few notes using the quill pen]

Well, from my experience threatening works pretty well when you want someone to do what you want. But doing is different than thinking. You can't change what people think. Good thing I don't give a fuck what people're thinking.

There's dribbling madmen everywhere after people like me. I watch myself pretty well.

I don't threaten into things. Reason can work surprisingly well, but threats? No.

You have a certain strength of will which I can appreciate. Good hunting. And if you actually find him, do let us know?

I have a pair of wings that I have been wanting back.

Not everyone does. But a lot of people do. And yeah, I'll let you know if only because I wanna see this guy suffer as much as possible. But I got first dibs if I'm the one that finds him.

...you a pilot or something?

[A broadly unkind smile] Well, if I am not immediately available, I can at least give some very creative pointers.

A pilot? Oh...right. Aheh. No.

You will soon find that things here are likely stranger than you are used to....

Oh, I'm plenty creative. Still, if I have to talk about anything, creative ways to induce suffering would be near the top of the list, so I wouldn't mind hearing about it.

I've seen some pretty strange shit. What kind of stuff are we talking about here?
