Chris was exhausted. And one look out the window was all he needed to know that he wasn't going anywhere today.

He left a message for Dr. Suresh that he wouldn't be in class today and then checked his messages. Summer had told him that no one called Wyatt yesterday, so he was puzzled at the call

Summer wandered out from the bathroom after taking a shower, debating whether or not to go to class. She wasn't sure she wanted Chris to be out of her sight today after what happened yesterday.

"Was someone on the phone?" she asked curiously.

[neurotic_witch]

"Yeah, it was Wyatt," Chris said, looking troubled. "Oh, and there's some weird scary looking bird things out there. I'm skipping class today and I think you should too."

"Scary birds?" Summer said, frowning. "I was thinking about skipping anyway. I want to stay close to you today."

[neurotic_witch]

"I have no argument with that," Chris said, sliding over on the bed to make room for her.

Summer sat beside him, snuggling as close as she could. "Well that wasn't a hard decision to make."

Chris put his arm around her. "Definitely not. Are you okay? After... everything that happened yesterday?"

"I'm fine," Summer said quietly. "Just...I thought I might never see you again for a moment there. But you're here, so I'm fine."

She peered at him. "How about you? Are you gonna be okay?"

"I think so," Chris said. "It was hard though. Seeing Wyatt like that."

Not to mention watching Bianca die and knowing some version of him was mourning that loss.

"I'm sorry you had to go through that," Summer said, reaching for his hand.

Chris threaded his fingers with hers. "I'm sorry that you got caught up in it."

"Everything's okay now," Summer said. "I'm just glad you all got back safely."

"I'm glad you didn't come with them," Chris said. "I wouldn't have wanted you to see that."

"I wanted to go," Summer admitted. "But I would have gotten in the way."

Chris nodded. "And Wyatt would have sensed how important you are and that would have been bad."

Summer just shuddered a bit. "Things must have been really bad there."

[neurotic_witch]

"Definitely. It was... not a pleasant future. And one I hope to avoid."

Chris bit his lip. "I was thinking about going to San Francisco for the weekend. Wyatt and Isabel are going to New Mexico. I want to look through the attic and see if there are any records my parents left behind about anything that might have happened to cause that kind of world."
