The 'artist' in me is not amused... *joins the Bleach copy bandwagon*

So... I'm very slow to catch on, but after hearing it from one of my friends on Facebook, then actually SEEING the evidence, via here: http://community.livejournal.com/bleachness/446299.html

...I want to say something about all this, as an 'artist' myself.

Rule #1 that is pounded to ALL ARTISTS, whether it's a painting, a drawing, or hell... an installation even, is to NOT COPY other people's work! A 'homage' is okay, but taking and copying EVERYTHING from the characters, poses, the panels, and even the signature style the artist uses? Not cool, period. Even when on a deadline, or exhausted from the artwork itself, going there is still a BIG NO!

[EDIT: Shoot... as soon I say 'homage,' he uses THAT excuse. No, a 'homage' does NOT equate to 'copying multiple sources'! A 'homage' means that you just use ONE vague reference to a series you were inspired by, and tribute it. Example off the top of my head? 'Choujin Sentai Jetman,' was a homage to a popular anime with a similar bird motif called 'Science Ninja Team Gatchaman.' Same theme of bird motifs, but the characters and the way the plot is handled is different. Get it?]

As an illustrator (in training) myself, I just feel disgusted and insulted in seeing this, not only because of how bad that was, but because this is what most artists have to deal with a lot on a daily basis: Someone like him thinks it's OKAY to go rip off another person's work, make it look like he was 'original' into fooling people, so that he could make it LOOK like he has some 'artistic talent,' and get popular that way. Selling that so-called 'comic' off as his own just makes it worse.
Seriously, nothing peeves me more then seeing how people think 'art is easy,' and to prove how DESPERATE they are in wanting some kind of 'instant recognition,' take the lazy way out like what the 'son of the KISS' here did. Meanwhile, us REAL artists, illustrators for example, are using our own sweat, tears and blood (to offer as a sacrifice to the great divine Art Gods/Goddesses) in practicing and refining our artworks to show our skills and concepts to the world because hey, we LOVE to paint and draw and want to show our 'originality' in our own visions. On top of that, fighting with certain clients and companies who refuse to pay us fairly and properly for a work that is actually X amount, and not Y amount, just because our labor in creating an image is 'magic.' Of course, it's sometimes a thankless job, but other times it's worth it to see a person's happy reaction to a piece you've worked hard in creating.

So, Mr. Son of Simmons, nice work you have done there. /sarcasm
Too bad in doing what you did, the real world is different from Deviantart and nobody tolerates plagiarists. Please grow up, and actually damn PRACTICE art if you are going to take it seriously, rather then go and copy a lot of manga artists to produce your 'comic' there. Oh, plus copying manga is only a good 'stepping stone' to drawing stylized humans. If you want to learn to draw your own actual, original characters, go to figure drawing classes and get reference materials to loosely base it on. Thanks.

P.S. Despite the comments I get in real life, I really do not think that I am that good of an artist yet. ^^;
But, I can definitely say that I am improving and somewhat at a decent level where I can say that, 'Yes I am good.' But at the same time, also say, 'but I need some improvements.' Though, a lot of things I need to work on, is not being so nervous about drawing and how horrible it's going to turn out. Whether fanart or not. Speaking of that, I need to post some artwork in this journal sometime... >_>;

art rant, omg, manga
