Housemate rant!
I've been bottling this up and only complaining to my bf (who, I must emphasise, has discovered all her nasty traits on his own! I have not been doing any pot-stirring!!). But she's just come back from a trip and her luggage is laying ALL OVER the living room floor, much to my irritation since I know it will remain so for many days. But the main triggering factor is seeing my makeshift slipcover for the couch (made by simply draping cloth and tucking it into the sides) completely undone and lying in a pile on the floor. I want to kill her.
When my other Nice housemate and I were looking for a third housemate, she asked because her lease at her hostel was up, and since she's a foreigner, would be homeless. We both thought she'd be ok and easy to live with. I mean we already know her since all three of us work at the same bar. But I guess you really see a person's true colours only when living together. She is still easy to get along with, but my god, she's a real PIG. Nobody can compare.
In the past six months that we've been here, she's cleaned the house a grand total of ZERO times. My bedroom and hers have an adjoining bathroom. Needless to say, she's never scrubbed the bathroom a single time either. Her own bedroom she swept ONCE when I very irritatedly asked her to come out for a second so that I could sweep for her. At least she still had some shame and offered to do it herself.
I wouldn't be so pissed about the fact that she doesn't clean up because I really don't mind, if she'd just, well, not mess up. But as are (generally) all people who do not clean up, she's also hugely untidy. She leaves her stuff lying all over the place and they remain that way for days and weeks until I decide to tidy up for her. I mean, I can assure you I'm also quite an untidy person. And sometimes I don't do the dishes for days. But eventually the mess will get to me. As it would for anybody right!? WHAT KINDA PERSON CAN LIVE IN FILTH AND MESSINESS AND NOT MIND?!?!?! I find that extremely amazing. And fucking infuriating.
Do you know that once she left her sanitary pad in the bathroom. OBVIOUSLY I'd refuse to clean it up for her. I mean, it's used. I'd admit I've also made that mistake before, and was horrified the next time I went to the bathroom and quickly cleaned it up, deeply embarrassed and hoping nobody had gone to the bathroom in between. My housemate's used sanitary pad stayed there for up to a week till I finally got rid of it.
And there's this one incident that I think I will remember forever and ever. I came out of my room to get some water and saw my laundry dripping wet on top of the dryer, and her laundry in the washer. I... just have nothing to say. It might seem like a small matter, but to me, it really says loads about her self-centeredness.
So many times, she's come home before my other housemate or I wakes up, and simply left the newspaper outside. I really don't see how difficult it is to bring the newspaper in on your way. I mean, it's really just laying on the doorstep. Just. there. You don't even need to take additional steps to reach it. I dunno.
Actually, the second month into our lease, she'd already met someone and has been sleeping over at his place every single night. She doesn't want to move in with him officially, so she makes it a point to come home every afternoon or every other day after classes to shower, change, and watch TV till her bf knocks off and come pick her up. (No, she can't go anywhere on her own without her bf driving her. Even if it means him having to go out of his way during his lunch hour or something. Although I won't comment on that since that's really not my business.) But in the few few hours that she's home every afternoon, she already makes enough mess and displays enough non-social behaviour to drive me nuts. And I know that it's really mean of me, but I really secretly hope she moves in with her bf permanently soon.
Sigh.
