Is June too late to have a New Years resolution? Yes? Dang, well, I will try to be better about LJ. I do miss people and I've probably lost half my friends list after disappearing

No worries it's not a sour thing...we're still dating :) Openly, ha. He still hates the word boyfriend so I don't use it. In his mind it means we're living together and practically engaged. However, everyone, including his parents know now and he's publicly affectionate so...yeah, things are pretty good. He's away working a lot (right now he's doing a lot of grip and gaffing on set) but when I see him it makes me happy. As you can tell I'm rather settled into it - I didn't even remember to mention him in my post!
I love "Center Stage" (I've forgotten how to do italics so I'm using quotes - forgive me). So tacky and yet utterly fun!! I like dance movies too.
Yeah Bollywood is a pretty big guilty pleasure. I just LOVE the dance sequences. The issue with Bollywood is two things: 1) They produce more movies a year than Hollywood, and we've seen how much crap Hollywood creates just to get a handful of good ones and 2) they cram to much stuff into each movie so it's VERY hard to find a movie that I like in it's entirety. They try to be melodramatic for half the movie and then comedic for the other half...it can rub me the wrong way. That being said, I'm drawn to their more epic movies like "Devdas" and "Veer-Zaara". I finally ordered my first Bollywood film (My mother owns "Monsoon Wedding" but I don't think that's Bollywood, just Inidan) and it's not even a movie that did well in India but it made me happy. It's called Aaja Nachle (which I think means "Come, dance with me") and it's about an Indian-born NY choreographer who comes home and has to get the town to put on a production to save the ancient temple that she learned to dance in (it's loosely adapted from a Bergman film). Anyhoo, it wasn't deep but it was fun and I loved the dancing. They have a good long production number at the end too - like "Center Stage". It was fun and a great guilty pleasure.
I do admit though that a lot of Bollywood I rent ends up being watched in pieces - or I'll start doing something else at the same time.
I could babble about Bollywood all day so I'll stop myself here!
Oooh I saw that one! Never remember the titles though. The first half is really fun. I remember squirming through the second half because I didn't want to see the confrontation. The funny thing is that confrontations are never that bad in Bollywood films. I always think they'll be like US ones but they never are...which is good, I hate squirming. But SRK (yeah I use initials, shoot me) is such fun to watch. Sure he's tacky as all get out but he's having fun and it's obvious so you can't really help but have fun with him.
Devdas was good in an epic way but the end made me so mad...it's like the one Bollywood film with no happy ending. Bah!
Lagaan! How could I forget that movie? It was really good. I strong message but not as cheesy as most of their message movies. However, I'm kind of tired of how westerners are portrayed in Indian films. It's the one thing that bothers me.
If you do see Aaja Nachle, let me know! You may not like it. It's kind of low-budget for a Bollywood film but hey...I made the boy watch it and even he said "it's not as bad as I thought it would be". And even though he amde fun of it throughout, he always want me to keep going everytime I said we could stop and watch something else. I think he's just silly and doesn't think it's cool to admit that he might like Bollywood films.
And I just went on a babbling streak again! I wish I had friend with Bollywood films to watch! You lucky thing. Mooch as much as you can!
Actually it's kind of hard to get them still. Netflix has some options but when I went to buy Aaja Nachle I ended up buying it off a private seller on Amazon. Then I bought a second movie with it because people kept talking about it but I couldn't find it anywhere to rent (and it had been the highest grossest Bollywood film of all time when it came out like 5 years ago). So things have improved but it's still hard to get them.
If you do ever see it let me know! It's ok if you watch it and then decide I'm on crack. Many people do.
