Nothing noteworthy has happened, other than I had my birthday. Oh, what's that? You didn't wish me happy birthday? Don't worry - NEITHER DID MY FAMILY. Well, that isn't *exactly* accurate. No one called, so neither my father nor my brother contacted me in any way. My mother only left me a MySpace Glitter Graphic. Not even a personalized comment. My sister did make an attempt, but considering there's still a giant elephant in our room, so to speak, I blew her off. NOT EVEN YOU, ERIN! Unless the Blue Slushy was meant as birthday acknowledgement. Sandra, you're totally off the hook, I didn't tell you. I never thought to mention it.
My work was actually really nice about it. I thought everyone knew, but apparently I only told Erik. Everyone was sort of upset, too, because they felt guilty they didn't get me anything. I kept telling them not to worry about it, but the next day Nadera brought me a delicious Pinapple Crush Cake, Denise gave me a mug and a beautiful card, and Page bought me some stuff from my drawer (we each have a drawer where we put things we plan to buy later).
David got me two cases of Honest Tea, the Harvey Birdman game, and a compilation of movies about serial killers. He also got me a watch but I wasn't totally hot about it, so he returned it and he's buying me a different one. Also, he got a really cute card that said, "Happy Birthday, from your sackmate," and it had a picture of two kittens sleeping in a bag, and he signed it "Kojiro." lmao. His mother, on the other hand, sent me a card "from my Father," AKA from Jesus, with all these Bible verses about birthdays, as well as a book on CD called "More than a Carpenter." WTH? I think I will send it to my Grandma Rachel, because I cannot bring myself to just throw it out. It makes me feel sacreligious somehow despite not belonging to that religion. I think it's just a matter of respect. I don't want it in the house, but it feels wrong to throw it away, so I want to make sure that someone who would like it gets to enjoy it.
Oh, there were three other noteworthy things:
1) I made the front page of the Herald Post! I did face painting for 4th of July on behalf of the store. It was pretty fun for the first couple of hours, but after the Library People ditched me and I stayed 1.5, 2 hours later than I was supposed to, it wasn't so fun. Those kids though, oh man. I may have gone to art school, but I cannot draw to save my life. There were dozens, perhaps hundreds, of children with these really pitiful drawings on their little faces. BUT THEY WERE SO HAPPY. I'd finish, then hold up a mirror with a little grin and their faces would just light up like it was the coolest thing ever. Anyway, a picture was taken, which was placed on the front page. It was apparently a big deal for the store, as the General was really impressed, so I totally won some points.
2) I copped out and paid the Swiss. Sascha was so concerned about what might happen to me in jail that I thought he might cry just talking about it, and Sherrie offered to loan me the money because she thought I couldn't afford it and was just being stoic by talking about how I'd gladly face my incarceration. I couldn't stand the thought of them worrying about me the whole time I was in jail, so Erik called the Swiss and told them I'd pay, and I paid at the last possible minute. I'm waiting for a notice that it's settled, but we did get verbal confirmation over the phone. And now I'm broke until probably next month. [angry face at stupid Swiss]
3) I got a letter from Michael. He came around I guess. I am approaching it with cautious optimism.
That's all for now.
