Spread the word! (Identity Theft Prevention)

Apr 08, 2006 11:33

I just went to the Virtual University website and they are offering their new Cybercrime 101: How to Prevent Identity Theft and Online Fraud course for FREE as a public service. Go click on the "calendar" link for details.

Identity theft is a HUGE problem. When I was working in retail, I had about a customer a month who would tell me their identity had been stolen. (Not just a credit card number misused, an actual *identity theft*.) The *average* time to clean up an identity theft problem is 18 months. Making your identity harder to steal (target hardening) isn't an iron clad guarantee, but it can significantly lower the risk that you'll become a victim, and help control the extent of damage if it does occur.

Did I mention they are offering the course for FREE?? Classes start Monday, April 17.

Tell your friends and neighbors. Post it on your blogs. Don't think it can't or won't happen to you. (Even if you think no one would *want* your identity!)

vu, identity theft, cybercrime
