Part one of the endless marathon is
here So on the heels of Sunday's trade show, I decided that I really would like to have a jacuzzi tub, because my feet were killing me and a soak sounded good. I looked everywhere for bath salts, but alas, none were to be found. Something for the Christmas list I suppose. I soaked, then slept, let the dogs out, slept some more, answered the phone, slept some more, and finally got out of bed around 3pm.
I had to get up. I had a large cupcake order for Duke - 10 dozen sweet potato cupcakes. I suppose I should have gotten up earlier, but I just was too damned tired.
I delivered the cupcakes early on Tuesday. I spent Tuesday afternoon working with my bookkeeper to submit my taxes for the quarter. Oh yay! ;^)
Wednesday I was back in the kitchen preparing for the weekend. I had cake to make after all. So back to the grind. Flour and butter pans, cut out parchment circles, measure ingredients. In the midst of this I picked up a birthday cake and ended up with a meeting with a music recital group. And had to make these little tiny gum paste circle thingies.
Cake one for Saturday was two cakes - a Groom's cake and the Wedding Cake. The wedding cake was Golden Butter with Truffle and Apricot and the gum paste 'fettuccine' rounds. Again, I underestimated the time and effort dealing with the gum paste - totally my fault. I managed to put the pasta machine I was using out of commission. I thought about documenting the process - perhaps I will post fact. Anyway, I wasn't sure if they were going to work - they were very fragile, but the dried quickly, which was good. They were applied to the iced cake and worked out pretty well. they were kind of like a puzzle to place, trying to find the right size to fit into the gap left under around or near the last round placed.
Cake table:
Front of cake; back of cake (which looks better because the sun was behind me)
The groom's cake was a chocolate cake with soft chocolate ganache buttercream and finished in chocolate ganache. It was decorated with a cherry blossom design.
Groom's cake:
The second cake of the day was very formal. Based on Wilton design, the cake was Red Velvet and Cream Cheese on the bottom two tiers and White Almond Amaretto with strawberry cream cheese icing filling (very tasty).
So endeth the wedding cake marathon. No more wedding cakes until the day after Thanksgiving.
That isn't to say there isn't more cake.
Sunday was a cake for church - the
UCC is 50 years old. Yep, we're the church that has those banned commercials and accepts folks regardless of sexual orientation. You know, those "liberals". I'm having mixed feelings about encouraging church members to enter "wacky" videos on Youtube.com, but I'm kind of digging
Rev Kirk.
So this week I have five tastings and a local caterer just ordered a slew of desserts for a weekend wing-ding. So what am I making in the kitchen this week?
Let's do a count:
Cream Cheese Pound Cake
40 Cheesecake mini-cups
4 dozen Neiman-Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies
4 dozen Peanut Butter Kiss cookies
12 dozen lemon bars
12 dozen brownies
10 dozen truffles
3 dozen mini-scones
4 dozen citrus shortbread
12 dozen mini-cupcakes (assorted)
5 dozen standard chocolate peanut butter buttercream cupcakes
5 dozen golden butter cupcakes
1/2 sheet brownies
3 dozen tri-colored almond petit fours
Yeah, I'm glad I don't have a wedding this week.
And to think I encouraged my folks to visit as I was going to be less busy this week.
More later in the week.
