Egypt

I've always been drawn to Egypt since I was a wee lad. Recently I have been "watching" a 48 part series on Egypt on my commute home. I say watching in double quote as I am indeed driving, so I do not get distracted. Luckily the professor is just lecturing, so I rarely get distracted looking up at beautiful temples and obelisks and such.

The class is pretty fun. I have learned so much and have had so much explained. I am about 3/4 of the way done, but what has amazed me so far is:

a) The great pyramids were constructed early in the Egyptian culture.
b) Egyptian pharaohs grew up for centuries with the great pyramids in their backyard. (As in 2000 years of rule with the great pyramids standing.)
c) Egyptian Art was not considered Art. There was no variation early on. It was meant to display fact.
d) most names that end with a letter 't' (really the t sound of course as they did not have latin letters) are female names. (Hmmm I should probably change my LJ handle...)
e) during the mummification process, it is not easy to pull brain out by the nose.

I can go on and on. But it is really quite enjoyable, and makes my tedious 1 hour commute all that much better.
