Let's see, what's Yossi been up to lately ...
* He figured out how to make a funny noise with his tongue that sounds like sustained motorized gurgling. I don't know how to describe it properly except to speculate that he will be able to make a trilled-R sound when he learns to talk. And I will be kinda jealous because I can't do that. (CJ can do it too, FWIW. The boy likes to imitate engine noises, what can I say.)
* He can climb. Seriously, he can get himself up on top of boxes and things up to about 12" high. Sometimes this gets him in trouble, and sometimes he gets stuck. But he is very proud and curious.
* Hand gestures: He knows how to wave hello, clap hands and do "gimme five". If I cover my face and say "where's Mommy?" he giggles and pulls my hands down. I'm haphazardly showing him a few signs, and he seems to be picking up on "nurse". (I use the sign for "milk" and he will sometimes give a rough imitation when he wants to nurse.)
* So far, though, he seems more interested in talking. He had been saying "mum mum mum" when he was hungry (sometimes) but is now getting more specific. He says "nuh nuh" urgently when he wants to nurse, which I figure could be Yossi-speak for either "nurse" or "nounou". Beyond that, his voice is getting clearer, though he is still not ready for real talking.
* He is starting to think about walking. He stands himself up, looks out, flexes his legs and looks determinedly across the room. I can almost see him thinking "I'm going to go over there and get that [thing]!" But then he starts to move and suddenly remembers that he doesn't know what to do with his legs. So he drops to the floor and crawls.
* He seems to be dropping one of his smaller naps but hasn't quite figured out what his new sleep schedule is. This is not easy on anyone. We tried addressing the issue by moving him from the playpen in our room to the crib in OS' room, but that failed. (First night was a dream, and he slept happily for nearly 12 hours without interruption. Second night was a bit more shaky. Third night he screamed and howled and made his misery plain until everyone was awake. Subsequent nights were equally bad, so I gave up. He is now back in the playpen and reasonably content at night, but his naps are shaky.)
* Despite the sleep craziness, he is a great kid and I adore him. I just do.
